I just don't see Welsh being ranked #1 after Angelo's matches

This.   McEnelly had to be 1 before this weekend, and Sinclair beating him and Ferrari beating Sinclair are better than anything Welsh has done even going back to 2024.

Flo already had Ferrari ahead of Welsh btw, so of course he will stay ahead of him in their rankings.

How does Welsh move ahead of Ferrari after an undefeated weekend where he beat Sinclair and Ryder? Maybe if Rocco was there we could’ve declared a number 1. Your HC avoiding high level competition doesn’t grant you the number one spot. Sorry.

Sucks to say it because I thought Ryder would have done a lot better this weekend, but it’s early and I like DT’s approach that “it’s early and he’s young”. He’ll have him ready by March.

1) Ferrari

2) Welsh

3) Sinclair

4) McEnelly

5) Fishback

6-8) Alred/Dean/Ryder

Only acceptable ranking imo

  1. Ferrari
  2. Sinclair (beat Max and teched Brock man who beat allred)
  3. Max
  4. Welsh (Has 1 career win at 184 no wins over top 10 at this weight to my knowledge)
  5. Fishback

9 - Smith

I think you give Ryder benefit of the doubt in the Cornell match.

This is what I had it...if you flipped McEnelly and Ferrari(and Ryder and Fishback).

I thought Sinclair could be an NC this year...at least had that potential, but... I'm still a little surprised he took McEnelly down so... cleanly. I knew Ferrari was a stud, but I had him 3rd.

This is such a talented young weight... I think the top 4 guys are pretty clearly cut favorites now. I also think McEnelly will look sharper as the year goes on(obviously). Not sure Ferrari can win with his current level of offense vs Sinclair and McEnelly, but I'm sure he'll get sharper and more offensive as the year goes as well.

I honestly have no clue how Welsch shakes up at '84 at this point. Probably...SV with Ferrari and no clue if he beats Sinclair or McEnelly.

Intermat had Welsh 2 Ferrari 3, but Flo had Ferrari 2 Welsh 3.  In theory Intermat could slide Welsh up.  I’m guessing they won’t though.

Just like huskerlucas' order, although you could scramble 5-8 any way you please.  Welsh does not have enough body of work this year to rank any higher, but this a definitely a year for the top 4 guys to beat each other and cause confusion.   If there is going to be a clear number 1, I think it will be Ferrari.

I had Welsh above Ferrari based on his runner up finish in 2024.

At 174.  Ferrari last year beat the runner up from 2024 at 184.

I think Sinclair has the higher wrestling IQ and don't forget that KOT is now on the ZOU staff and will have a hand in development/strategy, and training.  I'll take Sinclair in the long haul.

I dunno.  I think Ferrari is one of the smartest wrestlers I've ever seen.

FWIW, be beat Jaxon Smith 4-2, 6-3 in the U23 finals (Fishback was in that and lost to Jersey Robb 5-2 who then lost to Smith 4-2).

The takeaways from that match are that Smith got the only takedown that would have been a TD in Folkstyle.  Welsh had hit a 4 pointer on the edge, but that wouldn't have been a TD in Folkstyle.

In short, I got a nothingburger, but a sliver of not a nothingburger.

If they call him for stalling for being down on one knee (which, to be clear, is negative wrestling), then he is going to have a tough time against Sinclair.  Sinclair has a very difficult defense to break through, if you've not figured out how to yet (McEnelly, Barr).

Negative wrestling?  Is this freestyle now?

It's stalling.  You know it's stalling.  Don't defend it.

There is no guarantee yet that Welsh would even start for Ohio State this year.  Not a #1 wrestler unless he beats a 184.

I guess, but Fishback doesn’t transfer there if Welsh is still there

I don’t think it’s stalling if he’s actually creating shots from there

I disagree on it being negative wrestling, especially since he creates offense from there.  But if they call him for stalling, he'll just adjust.  It's what we see him do every time he faces adversity.
