Look, the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing? That's a legal principle for the courtroom. It's about how the justice system operates, making sure the government has to prove someone's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt before they can be locked up. It's a protection against wrongful convictions...blah blah...

But outside of a court of law, in everyday life, we're totally allowed to speculate, discuss, and form opinions based on the information we have. If there's a lot of evidence pointing towards someone, or if their actions look suspicious, we're not legally bound to pretend they're saints until a judge bangs a gavel. We can absolutely talk about whether we think Starocci might be guilty, or that it looks like he did something wrong. Of course sometimes speculation goes overboard etc.

But we're just talking here, not throwing out ideas

I agree with everything you said here. But do we think one article is enough to form an opinion of him as "an abuser"? I don't think so. HE DOESN'T EVEN FACE ANY CHARGES YET.

That doesn't mean my opinion can't or won't change. But until the police feel there is enough evidence to at least charge him of something, my opinion is that he did not do these things.

The point is you are free to believe whatever you want and others can have a different opinion.  You don't set the standard.

There are a lot of reasons a prosecutor may not file charges, a he said/he said case could be hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt so they don't file charges or the alleged sexual victims not wanting to go public or have their names out there for the PSU mob to go after her.

From the outside, it doesn't seem Carter is a great guy so I am not going to get worked up every time someone calls him an abuser even though he may never get charged with a crime.  You can obliviously take a different opinion.

There was an incident couple years ago made the news.  The media got it wrong but of course moved on.  The university figured it out but then punished not only the guilty but also innocent folks cause they weren't happy about the media attention.

Yes this is not strictly a legal issue.  We still don't know as a university employee what did Cael do

I agree with most of what you said. But to call him "an abuser" is factually not true. That's my whole point. Is he an alleged abuser? Absolutely. But an abuser? No.

I'm not telling you what to believe. If you choose to not form an opinion, I see no problem with that. There are four separate accusers who have spoken publicly. Three kept their names hidden from the public and one who didn't. Personally, I believe Beau.

Right. You can certainly form your own opinion as well. And when you post your opinion on a discussion board, I want to give my opinion to contribute to the discussion. Don't get so triggered.

Actually, neither you nor I know if its factual.  But it is entirely possible that he is factually an abuser and the fact won't change if he is ever accused of a crime or not.

Just spitballing here.   PSU fires Cael.  Iowa brass can now hire the only active coach more successful than Brands, thereby satisfying all those calling for change at Iowa.  Now tOSU alums who have been calling for the firing of Ryan can now hire Brands, the only active available coach with more national championships than Ryan.

In order to start fresh with a clean break, PSU hires first time head coach Jordan Burroughs, who will receive a standing ovation when he enters Rec Hall.

Finally, the poles with complete the flip from North to South.

Stone Cold Steve Austin glass shatters theme song comes on in Rec Hall.  Rob Koll walks out in his State College High School singlet to take on Burroughs and reclaim his hometown.  Typical Koll CEO move he delegates it off to a lawyer and tries to find a legal loophole

Shows up and finds the doors locked at Lied Rec and Hilton Coliseum.  Flags down a Paper Router coming by on his bike and snags a newspaper.  Front Page Title, "Larry Owings Named New Athletic Director for the Iowa State Cyclones."

Dan grips the paper tightly and snarks, "Newman".

At least those 3 people all faced criminal charges. Starocci, at this point in time, does not face any criminal charges. So we're supposed to declare him an abuser based on one article?
