Still Larry Owings beating Dan Gable & ending his High School to College undefeated folkstyle winning streak.

Lehigh's Rob Rohn was trailing 14-2 late in the third period and mixered OK's Josh Lambrecht for the fall in 2002.  4 pins in a row in the NCAA championships.

This will always be the answer, followed by caldwell over metcalf, and then cenzo over Imar.

Arujaus total dominance of Crookman with the “pointing to the center of the mat” was a finals match I’ll never forget.

Are you really sure about that? 🫤

I hate to break it to ya, bub, but that happened during the semifinals

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Ok I stand corrected -  just a quick thought / reply without thinking but still one of the most exciting NCAA matches I’ve seen in some time. 😎

You might call me a liar, but I wasn't very shocked at Cenzo beating IMAR. At B1Gs he gave IMAR a pretty good match and showed he wasn't afraid to go up top with IMAR.

NOT a problem... especially when you're an Arujau fan (he had an incredible season prior. Winning his 1st NCAA title w/ panache over Fix in the semis and in the finals w/ Bravo-Young. PLUS winning the Worlds @ 61Kg.)

Oh, and one more thing... it's Crookham.

(Not Crookman.)

Electrifying moment but not shocking as Rohn was a pinner and  had beat Lambrecht earlier in the season. He also was winning halfway through the 2nd we Lambrecht started titling him. It was surprising how easily Rohn got tilted.

I was told second hand info (but good source) that Rohn had a very bad shoulder and wasn't too keen on his chances that weekend.  This would seem to fit in with how easily he was going over with that tilt.

That's the gist of it.

Now that I think back, he had something going on with his shoulder at EIWA. I seem to remember him not going to practices for the next week and a half and "worked out" with Jack (our trainer).

I’ll go with Nickal hitting the elevator on Martin to pin and win against both Martin and the team championship.

Went from likely being down 6-0 to winning in a blink of an eye on a move he likely learned in elementary school.

Another one was Kollin Moore getting stuck by Kyle Conel in Cleveland.

Verne Gagne beating Dick Hutton 1-1 rd it stopped the first 4x undefeated NC.

A ref's decision away from being a four-timer. But also a ref's decision away from being a two-timer.

Didn't Caldwell beat him earlier that season (by fall)?

Wasn't pinned....but it got called.....official didn't know what consisted of shoulder blades.  His shoulders were resting on Caldwells stomach/chest (spladle  situation)

As a bonus it stopped the streak.

I remember this well....I was sitting with Kelly's workout partner, and he said they had been working on that for sometime....he kept yelling "spladle, splade", and in my mind I thought "yea right!", and then it happened.  After that, I became good friends with that guy....worked some wrestling camps with him....keeping his name anonymous.

The second Joseph over IMar was more than shocking to me than the first; pins can happen.  But I remember being at a mall in Sydney, hearing the news and saying to myself "I can't believe he fell for the trip AGAIN."

In a similar vein, Mekhi Lewis over Joseph was equally as shocking.  Got to see Lewis wrestle one tournament his senior season, and never thought he'd turn around and win an NCAA title in such little time from then.

McIlravy vs Abas. It was just shocking because Abas scored a lot early and had a fairly good lead but ran out of gas and crashed and burned in the home stretch. That's why McIlravy losing to Marinetti was kind of surprising. I think other than losing to him at B10 and the NCAA finals that year, he only lost one other match during his time at Iowa. I don't think we'll be seeing any more finals matches where both wrestlers score 15+ points each.
