it's getting to be that time

i did analysis for B1G Seeds and B12 Seeds (let me know where i messed up)

and The Pirate just came out with Allocations (if the season ended today). I haven't gone thru it thoroughly yet but Davis makes the cut; Teemer doesn't.

Assuming Teemer wrestles B1G's, I would imagine that means he's healthy enough to steal a spot (otherwise he'd default out). I assume he'd still a spot from Harer (depending on how brackets fall). Then Harer would have to hope for WC, which I would assume he'd get but you never know. Not sure if there's anything to comment on, just wanted to chime in somehow.

Teemer is going to need to win all three of his remaining matches or else he’s going to need to get onto either my police blotter or an at-large bid.

You don't think a #1 to #3 ranked wrestler can't win b10?

I forget how the police blotter works. Can you refresh my memory?

The police blotter involves theft (or, in wrestling vernacular, stealing something that he didn't earn).

what SHP is saying is, he needs the match count to qualify for an AQ.

if he doesn't he'll have to steal a bid (and go on the blotter)

And the winning percentage. 2-1 over these last three won’t cut it (and Askey, Chumbley, and Fish are no gimmies).

Thief: wrestler who didn’t earn a bid during the regular season, but qualified for nationals through an allocated slot.

Victim: wrestler who earned a bid during the regular season, but failed to qualify for nationals through an allocated slot, and has to go through the at-large process as a result.

What is the rational for allocations being earned rather than granted via rankings? It seems like the match minimum barring highly ranked wrestlers from earning an allocation only punishes the fringe qualifiers. Am I missing something?

What about different random poster recommendations implemented at different random weights?  🙂

Rankings are subject even though they claim not to be.

And choosing one would be problematic. They often differ in important ways.

And taking an average of many has problems too. How do you deal with a situation where one ranking has a wrestler included and another does not, like we saw with Teemer at various points?

The nice things about the rules based method is it becomes clear what a wrestler needs to do to qualify or earn an allocation. The same cannot be said about rankings.
