This is super exciting.  I'm not sure how one of the best young guys of all time returning could be less than exciting.  Especially with a defending champ in his weight.  And it probably indicates he will resume wrestling for the USA at a time when we didn't have a single champ.

And somehow people want to downplay it?

I don't think he has any significance to NCAA wrestling, if he is gonna continue internationally I'm very happy about it. If he's milking some NIL money before his next vanity project I don't care.

Might be a bridge to coaching. Another 2020 Olympic champ Taylor signed a $6M contract.

He has toyed with the wrestling  community for some time now.  It gets a little old.  How true is this?  Is he enrolled at minn?   Usually someone looks in the directory.  Etc….

Being the favorite for a national title isn't relevant?  I seriously don't understand this.

Cohlton Schultz loves this.  Free pass to the finals as the #2 seed.

Already lost to Luke Luffman of Illinois. Kerk will get the 2 seed unless Hendrickson or Bastida goes undefeated but they will probably trade matches this year. Schultz shouldn't waste his time in folk anyways he should be solely focused on greco where no one cares that he is so boring.

Because he's been a title threat since high school. Its a "rice is white" type of headline, and actually its less than interesting because it takes the last remaining fun out of the HWY title race.

Kerk is the farthest thing from "fun" I can think of. Just a big boring oak tree. David Taylor said it best when he said (paraphrasing) "if Kerkvliet could ever figure out how to put it all together and chain wrestle then he would be unstoppable." But unless something magical happens this is who Kerk is and he won't ever take The Leap now that dudes on the senior level have physically caught up to him.

i'm not saying steveson won't be more amusing to watch (which doesn't matter because i can always watch better wrestlers than steveson on youtube anyways), I'm saying he has no narrative significance.

taylor actually likes wrestling.

Well duh that’s obvious. David didn’t have people like Brock Lesnar whispering in his ear for the last decade. Too early to judge, but I like Gable back in the family for now.

What a ridiculous way to look at things.  Because he's the best he's not interesting.  I think everything about sports tells us this is not true.  There is a pretty direct connection between how much an individual or team wins and how many people find them interesting enough to watch/click/follow/etc...

But if you think the best wrestlers aren't interesting, that's okay.  There are lots of guys who aren't the best that you can watch.

i can also watch way better guys than him without indulging his return to JV wrestling.

maybe I'm out of the loop but didn't they make a big deal about him going to the WWE? did that not work out? Change of plan? I thought he was a pro wrestler.

he got dropped from WWE due to lack of interest from fans. a combo of low charisma and many fans actively disliking him for his sexual assault charges. then he briefly tried the NFL but didn't make the team which isn't surprising given that he has no real proper football experience.

If the NCAA doesn't rule him ineligible for doing professional wrestling, I can't wait for this to be used in the lawsuit when NFL players who couldn't cut it try to go back to NCAA football. Then there can be legal filings over whether WWE is professional wrestling.

The NCAA stated that pro wrestling is entertainment rather than sport.

He didn't mesh well at the WWE.  The fanbase as well as many of their roster had an issue with him having been accused of the 'R' word.  Not the Shane Gillis 'R' word, either.

This flip flopping isn't a good sign for Gable's long term career.  Say he comes back and wins a 2nd NCAA title, great for him but no one will really be that surprised or impressed.  Then what?

NFL is out.  WWE is out.  Where does he go from there?

Are you suggesting that Gable has only won one NCAA title?

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.
