The NLWC is in decline; HWC will soon be the top RTC

Recommended Posts

We all know the HWC outperformed the NLWC at the Olympics.  Spencer had the best performance of any man.  Zain went 0-1, RBY went 0-1, Dake got 3rd (was favored to win), Snyder got 5th (was favored to medal).

The bigger story is that the NLWC is going through major turnover.

  1. DT left the NLWC to become head coach of Ok State.
  2. Jimmy Kennedy left NLWC to join DT's staff.
  3. Zain is retiring to take a job on Wall Street; he has concussion issues that are ending his career.
  4. Nolf is moving to Texas to pursue BJJ.
  5. RBY just joined the Cowboy RTC.
  6. Dake is 34 years old and sounds like he might be retiring
  7. Gilman is gone.

Iowa meanwhile is adding Stephen Buchannon and Jacori Teemer soon.  They may add "Gabble" if he gets cut from the Bills.

Seems like NLWC is on a downward spiral and Iowa is on the rise.

Fauxbon 2- Adding two AA to your college roster is not exactly putting Iowa in the RTC top spot. NLWC is losing guys, but they will restock with the next group up. You cited 7 guys leaving NLWC and 4 of them went to the Cowboy RTC. So you have the Cowboy RTC gaining 4 important pieces and HWC adds two college guys, but HWC is soon to be the top RTC? LOL

Iowa will continue competing for less than first place for many years to come.

RTC depth, strength, and success will wax and wane.  But isn't the bigger issue for success at the NCAA level going forward relative NIL war chests for recruits and transfers?  Not saying RTC does not matter, but RTC are becoming a secondary consideration  to NIL.

Just a guess of the direction and likely destination in the next 5 to 10 years - I have no actual knowledge how its going other than PSU has been killing it at NCAAs.

8.  Is Nick Lee going to be actively competing now that's he's an assistant coach.

Even if Dake is done along with Lee and everyone else Jimmy listed NLWC still has Lilledahl, Bartlett, Haines, Messenbeink, Facundo, Starocci, Brooks, Dean, Mirasola, Snyder, and Kerkvliet who all qualified for the last Olympic trials.  HWC only had two wrestlers at the OTT Spencer Lee and Alex Marinelli.  Marinelli retired.  Spencer sounds like he's on the fence.   Sure they picked up Buchannon and Teamer, but they are still way behind.

Points 1 through 8 are all valid and do point to NLWC going through a significant change and possibly less horsepower than they had this time last year. That being said, HWC is still a long ways behind NLWC.

100% of the Hawkeye Olympic wrestling competitors made it to the podium.     NLWC can not say that!!

HWC earned more medals per pound, per inch of height, inch of width, and inch of depth of wrestler(s).

Dammit. I am on vacation or this would already be done.

Vacation?  You can take a vacation from work but not from statistics!
