Coleman Scott named "interim coach". Interesting. Willie is reporting rumors that the coaching staff is "running amok".

I (and many other people) called this as the obvious move when Scott went from HC of UNC to an assistant at OK State.  It made no sense unless he was promised the HC job soon.

The coaching staff isn't running amok. The rumors re: the coaching staff are running amok.

Meanwhile, people are critical of Penn's transition process...

Yeah Willie definitely worded that poorly.  But seems like he tweeted that before the Smith announcement

Great question. Maybe there's a game of thrones being played for the position. I agree with Jimmy C, should be Coleman's position.

Ahh, I see that now. 1 minute prior to OK State's announcement. So he might've gotten word of the retirement.

No.  He and Pyles both tweeted about it, but OK State deleted the original Tweet and then sent a new Tweet afterward.  Basically, that tweet was after the initial retirement announcement, so I interpret it to be about the new staff.

There is no game of thrones or mystery about it, it's Coleman's gig

Why the interim title for Coleman then? We all agree - this makes no sense.

Weren't there similar rumors the last time the OSU job was vacant too?  The assistants were taking turns running things jockeying for the vacant position and using each practice as a tryout.  I think Monday and Smith were the front runners.

His tweet can easily be interpreted as “someone on the staff is running amok.”  But I agree that’s probably not what he meant

The interim coach thing is weird though IMO.  Why would they even need an interim in the off-season (assuming they won’t take forever to hire someone)?

They were co-head coaches for a year even.

Maybe because it is a state institution they have to follow certain procedures to fill a position?

My thoughts as well.  Probably has to be publicly posted and open for a set amount of time.  Coleman didn't leave the head coaching job at UNC without assurances.
