If you are Iowa, with Kennedy back and presumably donning the 1-7-4 for them for this season, what do you do at 184 with Swafford and Arnold?

This is what I would do:

Wrestle him attached at 184 at the Soldier Salute.  Parker Keckeisen should be there.  Also, you enter Swafford and maybe even Riggins?

That becomes his 4th weigh-in.

You then wrestle him unattached in an open or three until the Penn State dual.

Meanwhile Swafford is still manning the spot.  Hell, maybe Swafford ends up being the guy.  I would be super cool with that and am actually disappointed we didn't get to see him tonight.

That said, if he can beat either Keckeisen and/or Truax I think you burn it.

He would probably get three at the Soldier Salute, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma State to put him at 13 matches prior yo B1Gs at the very least.

He can probably get anywhete from ?6-12?matches while wrestling unattached at a few different opens (Edinboro, Kauffman, Don Parker, Last Chance to name a few possible).

Thoughts?

Gabe wrestled Greta against Feldkamp and came up clutch but he looked undersized. Wrestle him at 174 (his ideal weight) or redshirt him is my opinion.

FWIW, Minnow claims that Swafford was suspended for gambling at least for tonight, possibly the season…

I think If gave goes for NCAAs let him go 174.  Better weight for him.    Especially after he’s scouted for a year or so.    They aren’t competing for first place after all.

There is rumbling online about a "situation" with Swafford. I think his status is in doubt. I feel like I see you, @nhs67, write more often about Swafford than anyone else. Is there a connection there?

I think Kennedy scores about as many points at 174 as he does at 165. That is, it's draw dependent. This is assuming his knee doesn't hold him back.

As exciting as it was to see Gabe win, I don't really think a win over Feldkamp is a good indicator for potential success at 184. Feldkamp had a solid tournament last year but he also had some head scratching losses. I don't see him as the 6th best 184. Furthermore, Feldkamp was able to move Gabe around quite a bit, it's just that Arnold did a really solid job of circling back in. I don't think a match against someone like Keckeisen looks pretty. At 174, I feel real good about Gabe against anyone outside the top 4.

Overall, I think Gabe scores more points alone at 174 than he and Kennedy score combined across 174 and 184. Sucks for Kennedy if he can't crack the lineup. I really like him.

Also, what would be the advantage of wrestling attached at the Soldier Salute?

I said in the OP.  Parker Keckeisen should be there.

No connection.  A fan of his style of wrestling, even if he is undersized at 184.

Why not just enter unattached though?

Until the 2nd semester starts he must be attached, I thought.

Oh shoot I think you’re right, forgot about that.  That part of the rule seems contradictory

Carter should be scared.  Gabe just beat #5 at 184.

would be funnier if you wouldn't try to spin this as a serious comment if he actually beat him(god knoweth how).

Wrestle Kennedy at 184. This obsession with redshirting guys right away is dumb. He can do well now, wrestle him, he can redshirt later if he gets hurt. Guys are proving to do worse with age.

Minnesota wrestled 157 pounder Matt Nagle at 184 in 2003, then he dropped to 157 the next year. Matt Pell AA’d at 184, to drop to 165 the next 2 seasons. I think Kennedy can be rd of 12-16 at 184.

Arnold is very put together but I wonder in matches where pace, conditioning and guys who actually shoot and require real defense against will be like.  I also wonder how his bottom game actually is.

I'm not saying that Starocci can't be beat or Keckeisen can't be, if he moves up to 184 for the good of the team, but those guys have motors unlike anyone else and are of a completely different caliber than what he's wrestled so far.
