Excellent point.  I agree.

Disney(s) can reframe "This isn't blackmail, it is conditional advertising."

X can reframe it as "Okay... this isn't blackmail; it is coercive negotiation and pressure tactics to direct our policies on free speech.  Go ***duck** yourself!"

Musk acts like Twitter is somehow above commerce when it clearly is not. If you don't want to lose advertisers' business, don't do things that will drive them away. It is not coercive or pressure tactics to react to what Musk does. Musk has agency over his actions. It all starts with the choices Musk makes. Everyone else is just reacting to those choices.

Will X go bankrupt over Musk's careless wording that sabotages advertising revenue?

Do you respect Musk for

  • expressing his own opinions in tweets that you don't agree with
  • talking about free speech being more important than profit
  • actually losing money from advertisers rather than moderating content in ways that activists demand
  • suing Media Matters for their underhanded activist behavior

People don't understand sarcasm.

A long-form podcast between your second cousin Theo and Roseanne Barr is available on X.  I listened for an hour, and Roseanne says that the holocaust is fake and that it needs to be true today for 6M Jews.  I recognized it as sarcasm based on the discussion's larger context and from awareness with Roseanne.

One signal immediately before is that the 'Always a Socialist' is talking about people preferring the real bullshit and 'the truth' and the real truth is that Biden got 81M votes by winning 36 counties.  It isn't rigged... its a fact that 36 counties can give you 81M votes.  Don't you dare speak differently, or you will be deplatformed...  And nobody died in the Holocaust either... that's the truth.  It should happen, 6M Jews should die now because they cause all the problems in the world...

This podcast was removed from YouTube for hate speech but is available on X.

Guess what was all over the media?  Articles like this call Roseanne out for antisemitism.

My takeaways

  • Mainstream News is propaganda.
  • I missed the smear since I stopped following the mainstream news.
  • Understanding context is hard
  • Theo is interesting
  • X support of free speech is good
  • Best quote from the podcast
    • Comics are the last free speech art form.  As long as we are performing, things aint as bad as they could be.

A smaller blurb of context for the clip is here.

It's scary that I listened to the long podcast by chance, recognized the smear opportunity while listening, and confirmed it was a smear job in the news.

Genuinely curious.  How does X replace MSM?  Do you only consume content from original creators like Tucker Carlson?   Consume pundit interpretations of MSM?

X promotes information through recommendations, popular content, and people I follow.  Some of the discussions about current events captures my attention.  I research the underlying sources to generate my understanding when anything more than 'just the facts' is shared.  Tucker is an example of someone who brings issues to light that should be validated... Robert Reich is another...

Sometimes this involves reviewing MSM.  Red flags go up anytime words of tyranny are used.

No, telling what will happen re: Twitter finances. The last estimate I saw is with the recent spike in interest rates the debt service is up to $1.45 bn annually. But I have no idea what their cashflow is, though both Musk and Yaccarino have suggested it is still negative. So lets say insolvency is possible.

Given that the debt is 100% owned by the banks that lent the money, a restructuring is a possible outcome. Another idea floated in October is that Musk would personally buy some of the debt to trade it for more equity (dilute his co-investors), and, of course, bankruptcy is possible.

As for Musk's comments, he is free to say what he wants, but he is stupid to think freedom of speech means freedom from consequences.

And actions like suing Media Matters or banning journalists who were critical of him shows the hypocrisy. He is absolutely a free speech absolutist, but only with respect to himself.

That Musk guy.   Crazy eh?  Why would the US government be after him?

mspart

Let me speak to the oneI know something about:

Why would the SEC come after Musk? Other than he clearly broke securities laws when pursuing Twitter? And then refused to honor an SEC subpoena regarding this (which is what the suit pertains to)? Anyone doing what he did would receive SEC scrutiny. Anyone.

Society has different concepts of woke.  My concept is a group of skinny dudes in black sweatpants and gals with purple hair screaming about equality, socialism and gun control.  The right's view is a stealthy, well organized cabal of elites embedded deep within all aspects society and secretly controlling everything.  Almost like the Illuminati.

Kinda reminds me of "reefer madness"

I remember a time when people would look at that list and come to the conclusion Elon Musk was the problem.

and i remember a time that the government weren't so hellbent on controlling information.

and a time when people listened to Rage Against the Machine instead of defended the machine.

The idea that the literal richest man on the planet isn't part of the machine....

Rage is a leftist, socialist band.  Elon is at least as much a part of the machine against which they (and similarly minded people) are raging as any individual in history, if not more.  They are anti-US government, assuredly, but also anti-extreme wealth accumulation.  Elon is the machine.

Not so much at odds with as in bed with.  Tesla probably wouldn't exist with government subsidies.  US government is SpaceX's biggest customer.  Boring is exclusively government funded.

“South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis says his state has removed the Walt Disney Company from its investment portfolios due to their recent hard-left activism. “I don’t think it’s right that billionaires should be able to use their global resources to try to take a free speech platform away from working-class and middle-class people,” says Loftis. “
