So it appears that Greg Williams will be stepping down after this season. Who steps in and takes over at "Injury University" a.k.a. Utah Valley University?

Hope it is someone who is more in love with top quality wrestling than seeing himself in every mirror he walks by.

Location wise it will need to be a Mormon. What is the point of the Associate Head Coach role if they won’t give the job to them? It originally was a prestigious role for only the very top assistants such as Casey Cunningham, J Jaggers, Coleman Scott types who are a head coach in waiting. Now every team has one. I would expect Ethan Lofthouse to get the job

My next question is, do you think Ethan wants the job?

It is not surprising at all. These D1 schools aren't going to add women's wrestling! A lot of girls don't want to wrestle in college. There are a lot of women's programs that can't fill the roster now. If a bunch of D1 teams add women's wrestling, it would be the death of D3 women's wrestling.

Injury?  Maybe that is age related.  Is UVU the second oldest roster, trailing only Iowa?

Is Iowa actually the oldest now, or do you jest?  There were Iowa age jokes, when Michigan had the oldest roster, and now some of the PSU guys are starting to get long in the tooth.  I wonder where Iowa actually stands now, especially with the supposed upcoming suspensions.

I jest, Iowa had a string of super seniors who have moved on.  They may even be young now.  UVU probably is older than average.

Michigan might still be the oldest for this season if I had to guess.  Looks like they have 4 projected starters in their 6th year (DeAugustino, Lewan, Griffith, Davison) plus 2 more in their 5th (Cannon, Amine).

This never happened.

Yes.  When Spencer went out and Suriano went in,  Michigan surpassed Iowa for oldest starting lineup in the nation.

Fake news.

well documented injury issues at UVU...not as many older wrestlers now as they had (i.e. Kjar) previously.

There are a couple of questions about this program for our Western States connection @Idaho.

Are they fully funded program?

What are the facilities like?

Thanks!

I would take a hard look at Adam Hall, Chris Owens and Jason Chambarlain.  Put enough money together and put those three together and that program would be very strong.

I'm not real close to the UVU program, but I am familiar because our valley has sent several kids there to wrestle such as Demetrius Romero. The facilities, in my opinion are not real great. I admit,  I haven't been to their facility in a while so I don't know if they have updated some things or have plans to.  Knowing many people connected to the program, one thing that is said about Greg is his ability to connect with kids and parents. They know he is going to take care of them beyond wrestling practice. Several parents and coaches have said they love Greg and they feel good leaving their kids in his hands. From the wrestling aspect of the program, the same people have said Jason Chamberlain was an amazing coach. He is no longer at UVU - He was only there a year. I believe he is now working as an Engineer if I heard right. As someone noted, if they go outside the program Adam Hall would be an excellent choice. If they stay in house it's obvious it will be between Lofthouse and Erkin. I am not sure about fully funded either, but I do know (as others have said) that they have full support from the university. The president goes to the matches and she is an avid fan. It doesn't seem like she would let funding get in the way of anything. They usually have a pretty decent schedule as well.

This is just my opinion... but having followed the team for a long time, they have had some good rosters but seem to have a lot of injuries. If everyone is healthy this year I think they could have a couple guys make some noise.  Drury is probably one of the most overlooked guy that could come in this year and surprise some people.  There may be some people on here that have more knowledge than I do about UVU - we used to have wolverine on the last board who was a big fan.

That would be a great staff. I would also say that Andrew Hochstrasser would also be a good pick to help complete the staff.
