Can someone rationalize them putting Snyder on the clock in the second period. He seemed to be holding center and engaging. A few observations....

Size XL Yazdani is slow and uninspired.  I respect the heck out of that dude, but he needs to go back down.

Bo Basset is ridiculous.  The grizzled old guys can't hang.  I like him in the finals by a lot.

Snyder and Sadulaev are warriors.  That quarter was the final.  

I'm very excited for the rest of the tournament.

Watch the Tevanyan vs Mamedov semi and please explain to me how in the hell they put the Russian/Bulgarian back on the clock?  I watch this sport an awful lot and it’s nuts I still can’t even figure out the rules.

Yoshida and Snyder are 1-1 so that wasn’t the final earlier.  He’s legit.  
 

I just watched the Tevanyan semi in its entirety and he didn’t get very tired but they didn’t do much early and he got a timely break in the second period.  He’s a tough match up for Bo. Doesn’t take a lot of risk and stays in very good position and super tough to get to his legs. Can Bo melt him?  I think he can.  USA USA USA

Amazing how she was able to completely control and dominate that match with taking a single shot.  Ugly style but man was it effective.  Lots of young wrestlers should watch her to learn that you have to develop a style that works for you and your body. That Japanese girl she shut out is good and had just beaten the defending world champ. Hats off the Leydecker. Super impressive performance and that’s super cool if that really was her old man in her corner.

By holding him back in high school until he turned 24, he doesn’t have the same wear and tear of the guys he’s facing. That’s the only reason he can keep the pace he does.

Unfortunately for the USA team race, Iran and Russia pulled back in and I can see each team getting a 3rd and a 5th.

It's not fair that Bo is wrestling old guys. Look at what happened when he wrestled U23's. He should have to wrestle people that are the exact same age as him, then we will see how well he does!

It's seem to me American are always ahead when it come to conditioning and endurance.  Basset wrestled 6 min non stop and didn't look tired at all . Sometimes it's true juniors and under 23 could be harder. But both Snyder and bo wrestled great and deserved to win.

And although Abbasghadzi Magomedov and yazdani has superior technique to Bo and Yoshida they still lost and couldn't endure the 6 mins and that's not the first time with abbasghadzi he lost to another American a few years ago at 61 kg which make me believe superior stamina > technique and strength.

97 KG final prediction.

 

Yoshida rely on his pace to break Thazudinov and Yazdani and azarpira ( at asian championship). His pace won't be as big a factor against Snyder, plus Snyder is generally stronger and already beat Yoshida in last year finals. I expect Snyder to beat him again in a low scoring match.

Snyder needs to score first.  If he has to claw back to Yoshida, I don't like him to win it.

Tevanyan is hard to get on his legs and he has the motor to go 6 min.  This final will be a different test for Bo but I believe he can and should win gold.

Well Yoshida is not the type of wrestler to sit on 1 point lead and cost for victory .  Snyder is a bad matchup for him

I'm bummed for the two ladies that lost their Bronze medal matches but what a day for the guys, and the other ladies!  Bo is just relentless and I underestimated him a bit.  Snyder and Sadulaev are warriors.  What a great 2nd period of wrestling.  Super slick peekout by Sad and nice finish by Snyder getting that ankle on the edge.  Thanks to those that posted videos!
