You know what, I’m not on here to argue with people or insult anyone. Bad morning and I got wound up. My apologies. I simply disagree and that’s fine.
-
Good for you. He won a bracket with 2 other people, both Americans. And, a bracket with 11 from Great Britain, him, and 1 from Canada. Was he good…probably. Does he belong on this rock. Absolutely not. I really don’t need to say another word about it.
-
It appears jchapman is also ignorant (giving the bob dole to an absolute idiot). A gold is a gold I suppose. But you two go look at those brackets and tell me they are remotely the same as any brackets in recent memory and I’ll concede. On with my day…
-
I didn’t insinuate anything. I implied that he doesn’t fit on this rock when compared to the others mentioned. My opinion.
-
Regarding Menhert, go find his brackets for those tournaments. He doesn’t sniff this rock IMO.
-
FYI - totally agreed with your take on Bassett. While he very well may be top 10 P4P, he hasn't wrestled a college match yet. I wouldn't bet against him...

Out of curiousity, I looked for other high-profile meetings and Blaze won 5-1 at U20 trials. Different style, but I suspect it could go either way in either style any day. Both so good!!
-
Didn't put a ton of thought into it, or particularly those 4 133's. Any given day...

Robin Reed: American wrestler Robin Reed won a gold medal at 134 pounds in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Before those Games, during Pacific Northwest Olympic tryouts, he actually entered and won four different weight classes (ranging from 145 lbs to 191 lbs), though he didn't compete across five weights at the actual Olympics

Since this a completely legitimate question, and it seems genuine, I'll give it a shot. I may bounce around a bit. As I stated, it is tough to leave him off. I wouldn't disagree with anyone that says he belongs more than someone else. The 13 World and Olympic medals is a good enough argument on its own. And, unlike some posters that act like what they say is the end all be all, I'm well aware that my opinion doesn't mean a whole bunch. All right, let's get at it... If we're going strictly by most medals, John Smith would be gone. I believe he belongs due to his 6 straight Golds, 2 being Olympic Gold, and his dominance. I believe Helen Maroulis belongs due to her longevity and overcoming various health issues to win 12 World and Olympic medals, including 3 Olympic medals, one being Gold. And, her absolutely epic win over a true legend of the sport, Saori Yoshida, ending a run of 13 straight World and Olympic Gold medals and denying her of her 4th Olympic Gold. I believe Kyle Snyder belongs due his extreme consistency in earning 11 or 12 World and olympic Medal opportunites, including 6 World and Olympic Gold medals. Many while dealing with the likes of the Abdulrashid Sadulaev. I believe Jordan Burroughs belongs due to his 7 World and Olympic Gold medals with the ones at 74kg coming in some pretty loaded brackets. He was also the face of USA wrestling for many years. I don't have a single bad thing to say about Bruce Baumgartner and again wouldn't argue with anyone if they would prefer his face on the rock. If I can nitpick or give my personal preferences, it's about the weight class and the era prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Regarding the Soviet Union, I understand the same could be said for John Smith. Baumgartner was also amazingly consistent, as well. Can I just have 5 people on the rock?

John Smith, Jordan Burroughs, Kyle Snyder, and Helen Maroulis. Tough to leave Baumgartner off. Taylor, Dake, and Gray next in line IMO.
-
Dake has two Olympic medals. Both Bronze.

We are safe with the tiebreaker then. We would have 4 Gold versus their 2. In that particular scenario. -

On to something that matters. I’ve had some time on the plane to go through the team rankings. Here is what I figured out: USA wins if Hidlay wins Gold USA wins if Green gets to the Bronze medal match USA wins if Lee and Haines win Gold USA wins if Lee or Haines win Gold and Green takes at least 10th place USA and Russia tie if Russia runs the table, only 1 of Lee or Haines win Gold, and Green doesn’t score any team points (which is entirely possible and I have no idea how a tiebreaker would play out or if it’s simply a tie) Russia wins if they run the table, Lee and Haines lose, and Green doesn’t take at least 8th place USA is clearly in the drivers seat but we need a win or two…or for Russia to stumble. Would love for someone to doublecheck my math… -

Super quick math but I believe USA needs one Gold tomorrow to beat Russia…regardless of Russia’s results. At the airport so don’t have time to double check. To be clear, I believe Russia could run the table tomorrow as long as we win one Gold. We’d still have them. -

I'm bummed for the two ladies that lost their Bronze medal matches but what a day for the guys, and the other ladies! Bo is just relentless and I underestimated him a bit. Snyder and Sadulaev are warriors. What a great 2nd period of wrestling. Super slick peekout by Sad and nice finish by Snyder getting that ankle on the edge. Thanks to those that posted videos! -
Looked like a textbook ankle pick to me…
-
That's 3 World Bronze, 2 World Silver, and 4 World Gold. As well as 2 Olympic Bronze and 1 Olympic Gold. She's just incredible!!
-
Maroulis wins 5-2 for Bronze!!
-
Guilford wins 7-2 for Bronze!!
-
Not sure how that works. All draws/brackets have been listed in the freestyle topic. Right from UWW.

I found these draws for men’s freestyle… https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/which-penn-state-wrestlers-will-compete-in-the-2026-nwca-all-star-classic-and-what-could-it-tell-us-about-the-lions-lineup/

Leydecker and Nette get started with their quests tomorrow morning, as well.
