It looked like Parris was straight up convulsing after Trumble got off him, does that happen if you don't get knocked out? I admittedly don't know the rules or saw the replay, but it was scary looking.

Uncle B what match were you watching?

I went back to watch before I posted. He's actively moving his arm to grab or post on his opponent through the whole sequence.

I'm not denying the fencing response or whether he was choked. That's clear. But he also didn't lost consciousness and the choke occurred because of the angle he was trying to fight through the lock, which is on him too. He made a bad mistake and got bailed out imo.

I'm a Parris fan. I'm an Indiana guy. Been watching him since he was a high school freshman.

He may have been on his way to going out, but he wasn't out. I've seen people go out in that position. They're actually limp. They're not adjusting their grip to hold on to the leg or trying to push off and bridge off their back.

ok...

Are you also Uncle B...:classic_dry:

I don't actually care about the call.  I was more surprised they went right back to wrestling, after being "out" or I would of thought he would of taken more time

Yes, it's actually far more common if you don't lose consciousness. It's more commonly a response to head trauma (concussion), not a blood strangulation.

I just saw someone go out from an anaconda choke at a jiu jitsu gym last week. The body goes limp.

I see evidence that Parris was strangled, but not to unconsciousness and not due to an illegal move.

If you don't think his age is relevant in the development of his style and how far along he is with his offense, then I'll just leave it alone and move on.

I never said it wasn't.  Not once.

Go back and read.

You brought it up for no reason.

Didn't he take down Parris with a single at the Open?

Yes.  I wasn't the one who said he never shoots.  The person who did was talking about his matches yesterday - which was true.

You guys are nuts - he was 100% unconscious. You don't always go fully limp when you're out - source: have done high level bjj for almost 2 decades. Also I believe you can recover very quickly from going out that way, although I have only experienced that myself once.

I wrestled in the ACC and wanted Trumble to win for what it's worth.

Edit: Askren believes he was unconscious too, and he's about as good of a source as you could want given his abundance of experience putting people out in bjj. Although I agree, I thought they should have kept Trumble's 2 for exposure there. And definitely don't think Trumble was trying to choke him out.

I just caught up and I don't understand why Carr received to cautions for "crawling" out of bounds? The first one was questionable, but I thought the second one was complete nonsense. JJ had Carr's entire lower half off the mat and the only thing Carr could do was move with the forward pressure that JJ's was applying by trying to run the gutwrench.

In that position, Carr can't crawl out of bounds because he doesn't even have control of his lower body.. it's in the air. He simply defended by moving his hands along with the pressure from James. Is the rule that you simply can't go OB while defending, or does it have to be a clear attempt to leave the circle to avoid getting turned? It just seems odd that James was rewarded a point for basically driving Carr OB in par terre.

Carr 100% crawled straight to the edge of the mat and made no attempt to stay on... it was not some super tough gut he was fighting off...

absolutely a legitimate caution and 1...

Huh?  You mentioned he was a high schooler.  That is irrelevant.

He is a brute of a bull that doesn't need to shoot because of his style.  With the new grounding/pushout rule this year, he can be an effective sumo-style wrestler and win matches he would not have last year (look at his Mirasola matches).

His headgear is interesting. Does it allow him to headbutt his opponent without hurting himself?

I could just watch his matches but man they are frustrating to watch lol

It's been belabored here and elsewhere...🚬

Thought I remembered seeing a post about it, I looked through 4 pages didn't find any mention though. What was the takeaway or thread where it was discussed?

we always called that style of headgear Gladiator Headgear...

i am not sure what the actual brand is or where you can buy it, but...

there has not been one wrestler who has ever worn that style that did not 100% lead with their head...

there is foam padding underneath that piece covering the forehead...

He uses it as an obvious, "advantage" (note the quotations marks).  UWW has designated headgear as a protective piece of equipment that can't be asked to be removed.  Nothing outrageous or too non-sensical. Others may have a different take. But they're wrong a lot...:classic_dry:

If I were Trumble I would protest a chance at Final X. That move was fully legal. Keep points and take pin away. Give him time to recover. Resume. Why wasn't that the call?

The Yianni method. I like it!

I can't say I feel bad for Trumble because Elor proved it's possible to parent a newborn and still make a world team, and what she went through was just a weeee little bit more physically traumatic than Parris getting slept

It's called gladiator because that was the brand back in the 80s or 90s.  A lot of brands make it now.

i honestly think he faked it. Im sure he was choked, but not sure what that has to do with convulsing.

Been choked out a time or three coming up.  It was a tougher game back then.

Some people convulse when they come back to.  It's involuntary and random if/when it does.

Feels like Spencer is trying to be somebody that he's not with these reactions after winning and his subsequent interviews.

His stamina has not improved and, in some ways, seems to have gotten worse.  He was completely exhausted at the end of the Lilledahl match, while Lilledahl, if anything, seemed to get more energetic as the match went on.  This has been an issue with Spencer for a couple of years and I can't believe it hasn't been sufficiently addressed.  He's a weak 2nd period wrestler, and any time he goes into the second period against a good wrestler when the match is relatively close I now expect him to lose.
