Last 5 years

2. Iowa – 397 points, average team placement 3.6

3. Oklahoma State – 390 points, average team placement 4.0

4. Nebraska – 332 points, average team placement 4.8

5. Ohio State – 270 points, average team placement 6.4

6. Michigan – 260 points, average team placement 6.4

7. Cornell – 199 points, average team placement 7.8

8. Arizona State – 185.5 points, average team placement 8.2

9. Virginia Tech – 165.5 points, average team placement 8.6

10. NC State – 155.5 points, average team placement 8.8

I wouldn't take this as gospel, but highly likely to be directionally correct and the rankings are likely right. Someone else may have actually done this type of analysis, and they would be a better resource for precise answers than Grok Expert.

Gospel says both 10 and 5 year running totals are Iowa as the clear -#2 team.  Period.

3. Ohio State – 742 points, average team placement 5.3
4. Oklahoma State – 673.5 points, average team placement 5.9
5. Nebraska – 607 points, average team placement 7.5
6. Michigan – 600 points, average team placement 6.2

Every one of these totals is wrong.

Good news. Only 9 of these are wrong.

Tks.  So by a comfortable margin.  Iowa is the second best team over the last decade.   I thought they were imploding. Can’t recruit.  Can’t even field a team cause they’re so injured bla bla bla….

Yep.  They are looking good.  PSU didn't even double them up this year like they did last year.  And Nebraska has only beaten them the last 2 years.  That means Iowa has beaten Nebraska 3 of the last 5.  People forget that.

, how about the fact that they have only put 3 guys on the top of the podium since 2014, and one of them was a transfer that had already placed 3rd multiple times.

I don’t know that your an authority on what recruits want.  given no one over a decade is better than iowa other than psu it tells me recruits do like to go there and on average do better than everyone not named psu

also.  Not sure Iowa haters are the ones who should be in charge of Iowa and their recruits.  But that’s cool

Given that Iowa has a horrible track record of recruiting I don't need to be an authority on what recruits want, the evidence shows it is not Iowa. How many top 10 big boarders has Iowa landed in the last ten years?

2017: Lee, Warner

2018:

2019:

2020: Kennedy

2021: Drake

2022:

2023: Arnold, Kueter

2024: Ferrari

2025: DeLuca

2026:

Given that only 8 of the last 100 top 10 recruits have chose Iowa, I would say that says something about what recruits want. You'd think that the second best team would have an easier time landing recruits since their performance speaks for itself.

This is an honest question, and I'm curious how you would answer this: Why aren't more kids going to the second best program over the last decade?

Kids literally are going there as the second best program in the country.  They have the second most points ant ncaas other than psu over that time period….

People also forget that they were huge favorites  when the politicians ruined the ncaa tourney during covid.

Every team is getting out recruited by psu.   Yet there are 83,838 threads on how bad Iowa is at it.

I have heard that Iowa's in the room process isn't as hardnosed as the general public would think, but I imagine it has a lot to do with Tom and Terry's personality not vibing with recruits. They come off as very old school. They are high intensity all the time. Of pretty much any D1 wrestling coach, I would say that Tom and Terry would be about my very lost pick to grab a drink and hang out with. I think the way of approaching wrestling that most of us grew up in is antiquated and, largely thanks to PSU, younger generations have learned that you can make the process more fun and still have success.

all I do is tutor students in math-science, and my style has been much less popular the past few years than it was fifteen years ago; if this offends anyone -sorry- kids are soft and can't take my demands or critiques as well- and this is doing math ! I have to lower expectations nowadays. If a kid is really not trying and I don't want to keep banging my head against a wall my go to line to light a fire under their seat is "maybe this problem is simply above you skill-set and we should move on." This generation hates to think something is outside their ability level. I can normally get more from them with this style of critique than asking them to pay attention to what they just missed 3-4 times over a week. These kids hate hearing me tell their parents they're not listening and their parents are more likely to fire me nowadays for questioning their children's behavior-inattention than respond to the feedback with actual discipline. I find myself smiling and pretending everything is perfect behind the desk more than ever.

Okay, "kids are literally going there."

You have Deluca, Block, Arnold, Ferrari, and Kueter for the starting line-up next year. Where are all the kids going there at the other weights? Literally half of their roster next season will either be holes or filled by transfers. Is a roster made up of 50% transfers a sign of healthy recruiting?

I am acknowledging that they have been the second best team over the past 10 years. I am questioning why it isn't yielding more recruits. If it's not a lack of success.. it must be..?

They were going to be so bad this year they were going to be relegated to naia or d3.  Somehow they had 7 AAs and finished strong  They will figure it out

debating this with Iowa haters isn’t a useful use of time.

Now relate this to their recruiting of high schoolers..?

If you think 5th, 4th, 4th in the last 3 years is good, then good for you as an Iowa fan.  Almost every NCAA team would celebrate that 3 year stretch.  I didn't think Iowa fans celebrated a stretch like that.  I appreciate the perspective you have to view the top 5 so positively.  It's nice that you don't have the crazy high expectations that most Iowa fans have.
