How about Stanford to Ohio State?

I could see kids leave after 4 years AFTER they earned their degree from a prestigious University like Real Woods did.  But to leave Stanford for Ohio State without earning your degree just sounds fishy

Pretty sure McKenna did! It is possible that he graduated in three years, but I do not remember hearing that he did.

You said you have actual numbers on Real Woods, but then you said it was 250k minimum and that is was a starting point of negotiations. So do you have the actual numbers or not? Show us the receipts of your "actual numbers" that you know. While at it, show us the receipts of "actual numbers" you have of non-AA kids (not high schoolers coming in) who have transferred to other schools that are getting 250k-300k in NIL. Ethan Stiles, a returning 6th place AA with 3 years left got 75k from Ohio State. Are you telling us that non-AA are getting 4x the amount of Stiles on a regular basis? Here is my receipt:

https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/for-beaver-wrestlers-game-on-in-2025-26?fbclid=IwY2xjawNoo9tleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE5RGJSZlhzM0lyY3l5enJvAR6DX5LvYP2TGRotOOhlijBFvc4lcyo7wQl7_VOARkdJEyulcgrxfLEauOFyyA_aem_kxLFzccKVtd3hD9w-mH53w

This is a quick outline on how these $250k NIL payout work:

$70k - out of state tuition at an expensive State or Private college

$24k - Annual rent for an apartment

$110k - Estimated retail value for a high end, loaded pick up truck that a local car dealer let's the student athlete drive around for the year - demo vehicle like the salemen get to drive.

$46k - Refund from their student account that allows them to buy books, food, or any extras they need to have spending money for - this comes out to about $3800/month

**There is NO money bag handed to wrestlers with $250k in cash.  This is wrestling, not football or basketball, where most head coaches make under $100k and most assistances make under $50k

That's why I said fishy. - McKenna was BEFORE the whole NIL thing.  I am curious if there were other factors on why he left Stanford.

ALSO - most often when a kid commits to a tough school academics wise, it isn't because they had a change of heart (although it could be), it's often because they couldn't get into the school.

D1 college wrestling is NOT a level playing field.  Kids at Princeton for example get NO breaks or assistance when it comes to academics.  They travel to Las Vegas for Cliff Keen on a Wednesday, and scramble to find wifi between connecting flights so they can turn in their homework on time or take a test since they get NO leeway on school work.  Only to arrive in Vegas, where kids from other schools that offer athletic accomodations to student athletes have been at the pool since the previous Sunday.

He was 3rd in NCAA as a freshman and then DNP as a soph, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Also, family in the construction business and he majored in "construction management" (or something similar) at tOSU, which I doubt is offered at Stanford. (Yes, I'd probably prefer the Stanford degree too)

VT has the money to be competitive in the portal, I wouldn't count on Miller outside of being a regular training partner at the RTC but that's how Jax started out so who knows.

If there are upperweight guys out there that fit the mold VT should have enough in the bank account to bring in 1-2 guys. Who those guys are? No clue but the lineup is good enough from a dual standpoint. They'd have to be legit AA contenders around 174/184. Maybe even a 1 year HWT.

Why counting out Miller already? He’d be an immediate AA candidate & would really help the team IMO.

McKenna also went to Wharton School of Business after tOSU

Pfff, when I was a junior in highschool, I had already transfered to 2 different colleges and was assistant coaching.

(I had to walk to school everyday up hill both ways)

The conversation has been brought up. There is a plan in place to have him train in Blacksburg often but still attend McCort and go for a 4th state title. Jax's situation was similar until Richie Figs didn't pan out.

If VT finds themselves in need of Miller and academics allow it the conversation may be re-visited but I don't see Robie pressing for it.

I could see Braeden Davis fitting in at Wisconsin - taking over for Exferd

Doesn't he want to move back down to 133? It will be interesting to see who Wisconsin brings in to coach and how this whole situation will impact Wisconsins recruiting and portal movement.

Gotta follow the trendiness. He's obviously going to be the NCAA champ next year.

Any insight into their grad school aspirations? Shane Griffith had to move on because his major didn't have the right post-grad options at Stanford if I remember correctly

It is well-known that his private equity aspirations simply do not exist in Silicon Valley and Stanford is a prime example.

Davis is about as Iowa a wrestler as you can get.

Maybe not straight cash but this Stock car we had to give to Bassett was at least $500k probably more.

Gotcha. Jax was brought in as a slow transition after the 1st half of the school year was older, where he was probably able to graduate early. I'd imagine Robie would hope for a similar path for Miller.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mullen or Sasso decided to leave on their own . Both are halfway thru their careers and haven’t sniffed the podium after being major recruits

Mullen was #1 at his weight and #8 or #9 overall in his class and he got bonused by 4 different guys this year

Sasso went 1-2 as the 4 seed a year after he burned a whole year of eligibility not even cracking the line up last season.

Hunter Catka just had his best finish after leaving Vtech after 5 years

His last wrestling match as a freshman was on Feb 11th of 2022.  Definitely out of Ivy eligibility, but if he could finagle a medical redshirt for 2022, it could be a big payday.

Pretty sure wrestling 2nd semester eliminates the medical redshirt option
