Most memorable NCAA moment from the least likely wrestler?
rsotelo replied to BruceyB's topic in College Wrestling
David Terao from American - his AA run -
You are correct. I don't know. My point is that if anyone has tried to help, it obviously isn't working - for reasons unknown to me. The point I was trying to make is hopefully this young man gets the help he needs, gets the opportunity he needs, or takes the opportunities to heal himself. Wrestling careers are ticking clocks and hopefully he finds a path that will lead to a self sufficient life where he can provide for himself, and perhaps a family if he chooses that path.

This is sad. He has run into these problems for a while now, across a number of programs. It seems like he has no one that is willing to help him transition to being an self sufficient adult. It would be easy to cut him off the team, or keep in in the practice room. Both of those situations are just using the kid. He is not a good influence for the other kids in the program, but Iowa has not been a high character team for a while now. It would be ideal if there were some sort of intervention for this kid and set him straight. Wrestling ends and in a couple of years, he still has to make a life for himself.

It's no different than what we previously had. The latest Flo rankings lists many kids as "5th Year" but some are on the 6th or 7th year
-
Does this mean he can just go away now? And take his brother Anthony with him? Angelo is cool though.

Great graphic. I can't help but notice the Ivies and the Service Academies. To me that tells me that school is more important than wrestling and earnings will take care of itself without chasing NIL money.
-
Obviously the focus isn't academics
-
Up until now, Ivies have historically not cared about athletics over academic. They are pretty set in getting kids out in 4 years regardless of athletic eligibility. I don't expect that to change any time soon. What more Ivy student athletes should do, which I don't feel they do enough, is do your 4 years at the Ivy, and then take your 5th year somewhere else. Also to consider is that most of the student athletes at the Ivies are not 5 star recruits, so many use athletics to get into the Ivies and move on to lucrative careers.

I think it is the drama and the script that made WWE / WWF so popular. Why not the RAF? Heck, the UFC, which makes a ton of money for the promoters and top fighters was almost DEAD until they started a TV show on Spike TV with all the drama and script.

It's a shame because it probably means the kid will also forgo a college degree. Sucks to see so many College wrestlers not take advantage of the opportunties presented to them.
-
If that is your site, THANK YOU. I love sites like yours and Wrestlestat. You guys are doing God's work.

I have always said - there are kids that wrestle while they are in school, and there are kids that are at school to wrestle. I personally don't understand why parents and kids go all in with wrestling knowing there are little to none long term opportunties that are financially attractive. It breaks my heart to see the 8-14 year old kids training for 10-20 hours per week, but can't dedicate 1 hour to reading or studying.

Great premise to the website, but all sorts of broken or slow

Tom Crook is a great kid. High character addition for that Indiana program. Looking forward to watching him compete next season.

This one should not be a surprise to anyone. Congrats to Dru.

I for sure thought he would go to Northern Illinois, but hey, congrats to him.

You can even use the search function in the app and watch archived events. I watched the 2024 Midlands last night.

I notice no Michigan anymore. I wonder if that is due to CKLV or finals.

I find that hard to believe. I am sure the recent additions are not there solely for the "culture". At the end of the day, we are all victims of economics. We all want to do what we want to do, but we all need to find ways to fund that.

Worked for me! Excellent deal and thank you for posting.

Tarleton State accepted into D1 confrence

Not nicer. They have lightweight mats. No way I would want my kid or athlete training daily on that surface. Easy way to ruin knees and shoulders. I could understand HS programs needing to use these surfaces, but NO WAY any college should even consider these for daily practice. Perfectly fine for a 7 minute match, but after drilling 100 double legs on that surface and you want to give up wrestling.
