Yeah if we could go out and steal Kollin Moore from OSU I'd be cool with it. I think it is a lot on the mental side with Mullen, which does make me think he could flip a switch but also to your point these situations often require a fresh start.

I don't see it happening this year though, he does really like Blacksburg. Hopefully he gets a little stronger in the offseason and figures out his offense. Even though he does take wild ill-advised shots I view that as more fixable than a guy who just won't shoot.

You may not…

Now that Reader announced he is leaving UW, If I'm Amos, I take a page out of DJs book and head to Stillwater for my senior year. Good 1 year fill in so they can bulk up Ross, or head to Ann Arbor.

I can see Zan hitting the road too, head back to Mizzou or Minnesota/Nebraska/Illinois

Things are not bright in Madison

Zan to ILL/Mich/MIZ would be great

With Fugitt having two years left, I actually think that’s perfect. Both Friederichs will be 125 for at least a couple years imo. Who knows how much Drake Vombaur will grow, and I don’t see either Trey Beissel or Mason Carlson being ready to start within two years.

I really like Biessell, he’s scrappy

Yea that’s great we all should know that and all but Dom Serrano wasn’t considered a generational talent like Mullen. Jimmy Mullen is one of the few recruits that Cael went all in on and didn’t get and now he looks worse year 2 then year 1.

A generational talent?  Explain to me again what accomplishments he had that made him a generational talent.

I really like Biessel as well, but don't forget how injury prone he has seem to be. I hope he got all of those major knee injuries out of the way before he steps on the college scene.

Injuries don’t get better in college.guys that score tons of points in high school usually struggle D1.

He’s the most dominant Folkstyle heavyweight in Nj history and walked through the state tournament 3x including as a freshman and the only reason he didn’t get 4 is bc as a sophomore he skipped it bc he made both the freestyle and Greco cadet teams . He lost the bronze match in both styles at worlds.

Was he more dominant in the tournament than Lewis Fernandes?  Didn’t Fernandes win a state title while wrestling like 3 total minutes?

Yea but Fernandes was only really good for 2 years and he initially bumped up to heavyweight to duck a deep 220 . His senior season Fernandes pinned everyone in under a minute except for 1 match against the #2 kid he tried to show he could wrestle for 6 minutes but ended up teching him in the 2nd period lol.. but Fernandes didn’t place as freshman or sophomore while Mullen rolled through the field as freshman.

He got silver in freestyle at cadet worlds but he did need a late takedown to beat acciardi as a senior. Feldman was a better prospect and dominated him H2H. Regardless he should be at least close to AA at this point.

He wrestled Accardi 15 times in high school, trained some with him and wrestled him 10 times as a youth so them being close isn’t suprising but yea Feldman has always owned him

I'm all ears, I'd love some improvement in the upper weights. Sasso was injured in November and tried to make a comeback in January but it didn't work out. Shoulder I believe. I love Andy Smith as much as the next guy but a healthy Sasso is simply more talented. Sasso has better wins with Posada, Merrill, Novak, and Stout just inconsistent.

I'm with you on Mullen's development, comparing it to HS is vastly different though. He went from being the biggest guy in high school and still being as agile if not more than his opponents to wrestling grown men. His shot selection is still that of a guy who's just physically better than the guy across from him. This is something that should have been worked on by now though, I agree Haught's results aren't great. Whether it's bringing in an RTC guy or an upper weight coach I'm good with it just don't know anybody with a desire to coach who fits the mold.

I doubt Haught is the answer, but he's also had the least amount of resources at his disposal.

Rightfully, VT has prioritized the program around middle weights during the Caleb era. The staff tried to keep Mekhi around after he exhausted his eligibility, but he was burnt out and needed time away from wrestling. For training partners, the middleweights have Frayer, Jordan Oliver part-time, Caleb on a redshirt, and Bryce. VT has been hosting a middleweight wrestler from Japan over the past month. The lower weights enjoy this benefit, too, plus Tanelli has been a big boost for 125-141.

Our upper weights don't have the same resources, and to be fair to Haught, I'm also not sure the guys we've recruited had either the high-level talent or the desire as guys like Caleb, Eddie, Seidel, Gaj, Mekhi, etc.

I would love to see Robie bring in a HWT athlete to the RTC. Jimmy and Sonny would benefit from an additional mentor pushing them or competition in the room. Apparently, Robie mentioned the SERTC received its largest gift ever last week. I would love to see some of the money allocated here. In addition to Jimmy and Sonny, we have high-level recruits coming in like Konopka, Carini, and Rocha, so properly staffing for the upper weights prior to their arrival is critical.

My prediction based off of no inside info is Joey blaze will redshirt then transfer to psu

PSU has no room for him in their lineup for the next 3 years - more than likely PJ Duke is at 165 for those 3 years with MM going 174 next year.  If they RS PJD next year MM stays at 165 and they use Henckel or Asher C at 174 - the only way they could fit him in one year is if PJD Olympic RS in 2028.

I personally don’t see MM going up in weight. 165 keeps him close to 74kg for the Olympics/Worlds. PSU may have more than one guy vying for the 74kg spot. I assume that’s where Duke plans to be also

Mullen wasn't generational lol. He wasn't even top 10 in his class OR the highest ranked heavyweight recruit. Jax Forrest is generational. Kyle Snyder is generational. Yianni is generational. Jimmy Mullen isn't like those guys.

That SERTC gift is the same 7 figure gift that's been brewing for a few months now right? Glad to see it finally secured. Spending on an upperweight presence in the room wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also definitely see a difference in desire between Caleb, Seidel, Gaj, Mekhi, Bryce than any of the upper weight talents. Not a knock on them it's just different for the middleweights we've been lucky enough to get.

Karson Brown flips to Ohio State...that's too bad. Would have liked to see him stay at Pitt and rep a mid-level team.

Maybe Pitt can receive Nic Bouzakis as their part of the trade.

He also lost to the Blair kid that year. He may have been “generational” but he definitely wasn’t a can’t miss guy going into college.

Transfer Portal Options and potential destinations:

125/133: Richie Figs - Not sure if he will be given a medical RS, but needs a revitalizer. Think something a move back home, CSU Bakersfield or Oregon State perhaps, if he gets another year.

133/141: Braeden Davis - Minnesota would seem a good fit I think. Iowa might go in for him though.

141: Tagen Jamison - Think he'll stay around that area of the country. Missouri could be a good fit.

157: Gavin Drexler - Wisconsin maybe?

165: Hunter Garvin - Iowa.

184: Caleb Campos - Love the idea of UNC continuing to grow, getting him for 1-year.

197: Branson John - This could be a pickup for Iowa, but may not be a smart one. Michigan is another option.

197: Justin Rademacher - Unfortunate loss for Oregon State, but I imagine he's very upset not being an AA. This is the guy Iowa SHOULD go for, I think a better fit for him though would be NC State or Ohio State.

I don’t know who wants the headache of Davis I’ve heard Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and others…whoever it is I hope it’s outside the B1G.

Jamison to Mizzou would be a good fit, I like that one.

Ohio State won’t go after Rademacher. Ryan is extremely loyal to his guys and we had a backload there already. If Geog didn’t wrestle with a broken foot at NCAAs he would have AA’d this year. We have Rogotzke coming back and I’m not even sure Fishback can make 184 next year.

Minnesota was in Braeden Davis’s top 3 before he committed to Penn state, but that was years ago now. We have a huge hole at 133, but I’m not sure we want to take him on… I’d be hesitant.
