I don't see how holding back for athletics is any different than holding back for academics, and many, many parents choose to slow their boy's passage through elementary school for academic reasons. Simpler answer: The B-2 is the only airframe that won’t get blown out of the sky AND is capable of carrying the GBU-57. The B-52 would work in uncontested airspace. Israel has likely destroyed a lot of Iranian IADS, but not all, and the B-52 has a big ass radar cross section and limited ability to counteract an incoming SAM.
