  1. Fair enough, but although It wasn’t directly in response to anything about his matches, he had literally just been talking about the Kasak match (and how he “didn’t know” what went wrong) immediately before the question about his weight next year
  2. Here is Shapiro with the other guy he lost to, so doesn’t appear he was accusing him
  3. This interview was after the Kasak match right? If so, I do think he was accusing Kasak, but he has plausible deniability.
  4. Basch said on his show with Willie that he was hearing Sealey could be going in the portal
  5. Can’t remember who posted it now (IAwrestle maybe?) but there was a since-deleted post saying Swiderski to Iowa
  6. 125, 133, 149 were not great. But 7 out of 10 ain’t bad
  7. Speaking of Robinson, I saw someone ask on xitter if there had ever been anyone else win a title as a freshman that was never a state champ? I have no idea (and no I’m not including Blair or Wyoming Sem dudes)
  8. I know there were some comments about the 6 and 7 year guys often flaming out. But half of the champs were 6th year guys - Byrd (and still has 1 more year), Lovett, Starocci, Buchanan, and Hendrickson (I’m counting “Air Force Prep” as a redshirt year). But in reference to @Paul158’s thread, only 3 of those - Byrd (assuming he wrestles next year), Starocci, and Hendrickson will have the chance at 5 NCAA tournaments (Lovett and Buchanan both wrestled in 2020).
  9. Isaac Trumble not happy about NIL collectives at NC State? Lots of Nebraska fans in the comments wanting him to go there. (Although in the post right before this he talked about loyalty)
  10. Kerk must have been pretty hurt to MFF out. Could’ve broke that one
  11. Two portal guys one of which pulled off possibly the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history and one of which had never finished higher than 6th, both of which had to beat 2 NCAA champs for their titles… Plott seemed like basically the same guy to me. I was a little disappointed in Surber, he was having a great year and seemed to show the biggest improvement during the season. But I believe Surber and Jamison were the only guys to underperform their seed? But, also kinda hard to nitpick their homegrown guys when he didn’t recruit any of them…
  12. Hopefully he gives Taylor a chance to have 4 or 5 full recruiting classes
  13. I believe Hendrickson mentioned his role within the Air Force was to buy equipment. Hopefully he doesn’t get DOGE’d
  14. How many titles is Cael away from Gable? Starocci seemed to imply he might retire after he broke that
  15. Fair enough, plus if it’s implemented in folk then there’d probably be arguments that the match was decided by a coin flip. The other option if getting rid of ride outs would be just stay neutral until someone scores. But then 125 may have never ended last night
  16. C’mon Jimmy can you take a day off from trolling? Cruz lol. If anything he’s a good example of improvement, he was 0-2 against D1 competition in his redshirt year losing to guys from Ohio and Cleveland State one of which was a backup. Already addressed Teemer and Parco, if I’m not mistaken them plus Franek and Teske is the complete list of transfer starters that did not have their best finish while at Iowa.
  17. Well he was 0-2 against Ferrari prior to this year
  18. Of course, worth noting that on the whole this wasn’t even true even before this year. But Buchanan is their first transfer to win a title.
  19. Buchanan said prior to coming to Iowa he didn’t love wrestling, but after coming to Iowa he does. But he was finally able to get over the AJ Ferrari hump (no pun intended) and withstand the Cael magic. Yes I know Teemer is not a good example for them, but he was legitimately injured and if some of the rumors are to be believed he may not have been totally bought in (and could have led to the injury). Parco had been looking pretty good but unfortunately got injured during the tournament. But Caliendo can also be used as a positive example. Also side note but interesting comment in Brands’ interview he specifically said he didn’t recruit Buchanan, but then does make later comments about “people in the community talking about him”
  20. I know some of the wrestling posters don’t look at this forum but hoping to keep some of the discussion about this here. First of all, regardless of politics you gotta agree that it’s cool that the President was there. He actually did seem to be enjoying himself and stayed until the end. The timing of his entrance was awkward in terms of interrupting Starocci’s interview though, not sure whose fault that was. Elon also talking about it I’m sure got some more people talking about it, not sure if it actually got any more people to watch. But posts like this from “influencers” is what annoys me about when politics get involved in wrestling, no need to turn this into a left vs right thing:
  21. Update: every champion had at least 23 matches entering the tournament, and Byrd was the only one with less than 25 (23).
  22. No, IMO. I don’t like adding more subjectivity. I don’t think guys running away was any worse than Byrd winning on a stall call. Cael may have been on to something when he said just get rid of stalling completely.
