  2. Delete - misremembering stuff.
  3. It's a subjective ref. call and often decides the match. Basically like stalling in folk, but even more punitive. Maybe I'm just an idiot, but it it always seems like they're putting the wrong guy on the clock.
  4. This would be a good option for the softer, more feminine high schoolers.
  5. And therein lines the problem. The scoring is arbitrary because I don't understand it and I don't understand it because the scoring is arbitrary.
  6. The arbitrary scoring in freestyle makes it almost as exciting as breakdancing.
  7. "Shot Clock Haters"
  8. Olympics is always a good reminder of how dumb freestyle is and how we should force the rest of the world to wrestle folkstyle.
  9. Pretty unfair that I am, by default, Unfunny Fletcher. But I guess these are the cards I've been dealt.
  10. So if this ends up being the direction programs go in, which programs currently offering scholarships may go down to zero - so they can be used for football instead? it would probably be programs that currently are not at 9.9 (an indicator that the school already doesn't value wrestling) and obviously are serious about football. Stanford? Pitt? Northwestern? Most other Big Ten teams are probably safe and some may even increase their scholarships - PSU, tOSU, Iowa.
  11. Just D1. And possibly just P5 conference schools only?
  12. Up to 30 scholarships available, but schools still have to balance male with female scholarships in the aggregate. So it doesn't necessarily mean more for wrestling and could mean less - e.g. if the school wants to increase football scholarships, it may need to take them from wrestling to keep the overall balance between male/female scholarships.
  13. I can't believe I didn't think of this joke first. Dammit!
  14. Still can't believe Hamiti let that Big Ten match get away from him. Hamiti holds on and wins that, then he's opposite bracket from Carr and straight path to the NCAA finals, while Mesinbrink would have to go thru Carr and O'Toole. Back on topic - I'd probably say smartest would be any pre-med or engineering kid with a high GPA. I don't know Mesinbrink's major, but I expect classes at PSU are easier than at the Ivies.
  15. Princeton/Cornell/Stanford have some admissions flexibility for the right recruit. Still higher standards than most schools, but not as strict on academic standards as the other ivies.
  16. He's definitely not hogtied in the trunk of my car right now, if that's what you're hinting at.
  17. Nope. Some dude named "FunnyFletcher" was on the old board for a short while and was a comedian, but I'm the original. And my posts are deadly serious.
  18. Given his age, there's also a fair chance the kid's dad is doing all this in his name.
  19. Did a great job with Northwestern and wish he was back into coaching.
  20. The ACC has an airtight "grant of rights" agreement with all members. FSU, Clemson and Miami would have to pay around $100MM to exit. Doesn't mean they won't, but unlikely. Each year the exit cost go down, so they eventually will leave - just depends on when it becomes cost-effective.
  21. No problem - happy to help. Now that I've taught you how message boards work, we can move on to Facebook and texting.
  22. Nope - going off memory, so I don't have data on hand. It's also been a while since Borelli's coached.
  23. It's a public message board - anyone can respond to anything. I was the initial poster anyways.
  24. Clearly running a top-notch program in terms of recruiting and getting already good wrestlers to continue performing at a high level. Can he take an average kid and turn him into a stud? I'm not really a PSU fan - I don't have enough knowledge about their program to give examples.
  25. You're welcome to your own interpretation. In my mind, it's relative. Turn a 3rd string kid into an above 500 wrestler, that's a success. Turn a top 50 recruit into a 500 college wrestler, not as impressive.
