  1. Funny post but Starocci deliberately chose 190 because he knows Ferrari can't get there. Probably cutting hard just to make 197. I also hope he's not violating any NIL contract character clauses. I'd hate to see him accidentally forfeit NIL cash just to make an instagram joke.
  2. I just don't know what half the emojis even mean. I'm sure they're hilarious for some, but a simple Facebook-like thumbs-up as the default is best. And to the people giving the Bob Dole reaction to my above post, I see you (and still don't know what it means).
  3. While you're at it, can we get rid of the stupid bob dole face as the default reaction? It was funny for about 5 seconds but time to move back to the standard thumbs-up.
  4. Yea - I thought this too. He's calling out kids who were not held back and saying they should have been. I don't think anyone would do that unless they were joking. Or maybe he's half-joking; like he sees the value in holding back but is exaggerating here for laughs?
  5. My favorite part of freestyle is when a wrestler gets a leglace and wins by TF in 12 seconds so we never actually get to see who the better wrestler is. My second favorite part is the arbitrary (and often match-deciding) referee decision of who goes on the shot clock.
  6. "he may have never reached the height he did" Hardly anybody follows Olympic freestyle. The height of wrestling is winning NCAA titles. From my perspective, Cejudo never did reach the height he could have had he wrestled in college.
  7. US should flex our diplomatic muscles and make the rest of the world bend to us. No reason we can't make everyone else start wrestling folkstyle and cut off international aid if they don't.
  8. Hate it when you MFers make me check out for 41 min. in the middle of my work day.
  9. Gotta shoot your shot. Otherwise spend the rest of your life wondering “what if…”
  10. The guy's lived his entire life without crown molding and has finally had enough.

  12. Delete - misremembering stuff.
  13. It's a subjective ref. call and often decides the match. Basically like stalling in folk, but even more punitive. Maybe I'm just an idiot, but it it always seems like they're putting the wrong guy on the clock.
  14. This would be a good option for the softer, more feminine high schoolers.
  15. And therein lines the problem. The scoring is arbitrary because I don't understand it and I don't understand it because the scoring is arbitrary.
  16. The arbitrary scoring in freestyle makes it almost as exciting as breakdancing.
  17. "Shot Clock Haters"
  18. Olympics is always a good reminder of how dumb freestyle is and how we should force the rest of the world to wrestle folkstyle.
  19. Pretty unfair that I am, by default, Unfunny Fletcher. But I guess these are the cards I've been dealt.
  20. So if this ends up being the direction programs go in, which programs currently offering scholarships may go down to zero - so they can be used for football instead? it would probably be programs that currently are not at 9.9 (an indicator that the school already doesn't value wrestling) and obviously are serious about football. Stanford? Pitt? Northwestern? Most other Big Ten teams are probably safe and some may even increase their scholarships - PSU, tOSU, Iowa.
  21. Just D1. And possibly just P5 conference schools only?
  22. Up to 30 scholarships available, but schools still have to balance male with female scholarships in the aggregate. So it doesn't necessarily mean more for wrestling and could mean less - e.g. if the school wants to increase football scholarships, it may need to take them from wrestling to keep the overall balance between male/female scholarships.
  23. I can't believe I didn't think of this joke first. Dammit!
  24. Still can't believe Hamiti let that Big Ten match get away from him. Hamiti holds on and wins that, then he's opposite bracket from Carr and straight path to the NCAA finals, while Mesinbrink would have to go thru Carr and O'Toole. Back on topic - I'd probably say smartest would be any pre-med or engineering kid with a high GPA. I don't know Mesinbrink's major, but I expect classes at PSU are easier than at the Ivies.
  25. Princeton/Cornell/Stanford have some admissions flexibility for the right recruit. Still higher standards than most schools, but not as strict on academic standards as the other ivies.
