Um...is Trent Hidlay possibly our rep at 86kg?
Truzzcat replied to maligned's topic in International Wrestling
I think most people would do just about anything for a shot at a gold medal. When you look at the landscape it would be about 2.5 months of training and he's mentioned before that his wife really holds things down for him. I think that he would try and make it work. I do not think he would be training at NLWC though I would imagine Dake maybe splits time with him as well as Varner and he brings some guys in if this were to happen. Perhaps I'm looking at it with rose tinted glasses though because I believe David could still win gold and for Trent it would be an uphill battle for bronze. Dustin plott, Christian Carroll and chris perry would not be bad partners as well. -

I think trent can beat naifanov hes beaten amine and kentchadze albeit an undersized kentchadze but I think talent wise he'd be up there with anyone at 86kg. If kadiev ends up being the rep for Russia I think that makes the medal outlook a bit bleaker because I do not know that Trent or even Aaron beats him for sure that kid looks incredible. I really think ghasempour may be the tougher opponent for iran this year I think they send Yaz but I do not think he will be 100%. I do think DT will wrestle if AB cannot though. -
on the show Basch and Willie did last night Basch said he had heard Kennedy and Gillman.
-
has anyone reported anything besides Mineo? it's been 5 hours since he posted it and I have yet to see nomad,Willie,Basch,Flow say anything.

It would be absolutely invaluable for Merill to get to role with Wyatt for a year rather than just doucet and a beefed up chris perry and slimmed down christian carroll.
-
selfishly I'm hoping its okie state because I think if they could land him and potentially Alirez they would have a very fun team. However, for Wyatts progression Michigan definitely seems like the best landing spot unless gable starts to train at Minnesota again.

I'd also like to add how horrendous testing is in college wrestling. I personally think if you have a prescription, you should be absolutely allowed to take something so this instance is not really an example, but it just made me think. How do we have a considerable number of guys testing positive for things during international competition but never during the collegiate season. I have to think it's because guys are simply not being tested and I knew that was the case in smaller programs, but I guess I at least assumed maybe at NCAA's or conferences.

Mineo said on twitter that DT was never made aware of this situation (no idea how he knows that). If that is the case it makes you wonder how DT is currently feeling about PSU. Coming off the loss I'm sure it was a bag of mixed emotions given he lost to a teammate so this may add a little more salt to the wound.

appetite suppression and mental acuity would be the big two that come to mind. In the instance of him cutting weight at 2am and then being able to go and wrestle at a high level 8-9 hours later I'm sure it would also help. I remember it being pretty popular with cornerbacks in the NFL. I believe Richard sherman may have gotten suspended for it. All of the advantages are probably negligible but at the highest levels may give an edge. If he has a prescription, then I don't know how it matters though. What I am wondering is if DT was privies to this information and it is having an impact on his decision to take the job at okie state in case he will be wrestling.

The insight and wisdom of Pyles on display…
Truzzcat replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
I agree with Christian for the United state 59 or 60 KG being the lowest weight would probably be ideal. However, there are a lot of nations that seem to not have as much of an issue getting guys at that weight probably because their average population weight is much lighter in general. So I'm not sure it's not a case of us looking at our team as a majority rather than a minority. -
I think its possible we have not even seen the best version of gable. Not being on the mat all the time it will probably be refreshing for him to get back he also likely feels like he needs to prove something which I doubt was there as much post olympics. Physically he is also a grown ass man now last time I saw him he was looking HUGE.

just coming back to this after watching Mamedov vs Magomedov. Honestly outside of the 4 I did not think the match was super close. Abasghadzi I think needed to try and keep scoring his arm drag is one of my favorite techniques in the sports right now even though Vito may do it even better. I think at least to me this shows Vitos future is 65kg. Having a two wins now over guys that did very well at 65kg at probably their preferable weights now in abasghadzi and zhumashebk uulu who teched nick lee at the Ferrell in 2022 and had a respectable match with Amouzad at the World Cup. To willie's point 65kg was a gauntlet this year and he was hurt so sitting out was likely his best option but after none olympic weight worlds this year id like to see him start building up for 65. what a field that would be for 2028 Vito, Jesse, Nick lee (I assume he goes one more cycle), Yianni, Alirez, Bo Bassett probably, Jax? and Marcus blaze.

he looked much better physically (thought he looked kinda fat at worlds) there was not a ton of exchanges in the match though he gave up 4 going for a chest wrap and then kinda chipped away. Both guys seemed super tired at the end though in a match that was not wrestled at a high pace so not super inspiring imo Taz would still be my pick and he looked beatable for Snyder as well to me imo. I do think its very likely that Sadulaev is closer to his early 30's than his late 20's though so something like this could be expected. I know there was a lot of steam about him being a few years older than he was listed early on in his career. -
I would certainly rather have Barr at 184 than Cochran at 197. I know Cochran got a ton of hype for the slav win but he lost to Beard 20-6 and Cardenas 13-6. The argument you could probably make is that 184 is going to be the more difficult weight so you put Carter there and while im not willing to write off PK I think you guarantee top 2 and Cochran could sneak on the podium. In terms of upside I think you bank on barrs development and hope he can low to mid AA and Carter wins 197 which I think he probably does without much opposition barring AJ coming back and being the same guy he was when he left in 2021.

I thought sadulaev looked rather pedestrian by his standards in the finals against zhabrailov. -
No I get that 100% especially given who we are talking about. However given the word was he was working out at a high school and did not even have 3 minute cardio I think there is a lot of room for him to improve without even being in good shape.
-
for about 60 seconds it looked like Pat was better than Carter. Now thats about 16% of a match but assuming his training was shit going in if he could somehow keep his head on straight I'd love to see him try for the 92kg spot for worlds. As of right now I think you'd probably pencil in Zahid as the prohibited favorite and then some combination of Hidlay,Moore,Jackson,Mike mach I think PD3 could throw his name in that mix with decent cardio and actually training with high level wrestlers.
