  1. Are we doing transitive property for matches? Because Akgul was *on his way to getting teched by Steveson before he shut down entirely early in the second. Zare and Steveson are polar opposites in their styles and styles make matches. Brute vs slick. Underhook pushouts vs reattacks. Singles vs Iran ankle picks. All I know is that Steveson will be a random draw and will get 2/3 once again.
  2. Now do the part where Steveson didn’t get 4 for amplitude and was only granted 1, and Eggum didn’t challenge because until the world-class guts happened Steveson was in cruise control.
  3. Don't read too much into the Kannon Webster loss - he is the real deal and will change the trajectory of Illinois. Mendez will be just fine.
  4. tOSU fans have a reasonable gripe that their HS kids ride the donkey piss out of opponents and know how to get out from bottom real quick, but the premiere college program can do neither at the level expected of that program. [BNWTWG is not available for questions at this time about Illinois-related anythings]
  5. Welcome to Bag Man: Wrestling Edition. This has been happening for decades in FB, MBB, and WBB caught up about 12-14 years ago. BN isn't the only one though - look no further than Oklahoma, another [formerly?] prestigious school that was caught up in a massive changing of the guard. ETA: I am agreeing with your take. Some will choose the best program, some will choose the most money.
  6. What does this have to do with my direct responses to your question and follow-up question? Also, you *are* a fan. What have you accomplished in wrestling other than being an ardent support of accomplished wrestlers? More than me? I know not. Less than me? I will genuinely say that no you have not. Neither of us has made a senior world team and that’s the whole gist of this, so let’s not get into an internet pissing contest that we both lose.
  7. I appreciate your steadfastness... The mantra "never skip leg day" never misses... You are always the first to dig deepest to move the goal posts...
  8. wtf are you talking about. Go back to "Derrrr greco greatest me no like USAW only dum dum leg grab. Grumpy ellipses go 'brrrrrrrr." Snyder moved to the OTC in high school. Won a world title less than a year after departing Colorado Springs. He has cited his success directly to training at OTC many times, including a recent vlog/blog/documentary/whatever kids call content these days. Cox moved there after college. Won a couple world titles after "only" being a bronze medalist. I'd say that is a pretty good success. Aaron Brooks joined the EAP program at the OTC and skipped his last year of high school. I'd say he is doing alright. But... Nice... Try...
  9. Kyle Snyder is doing okay. J'Den Cox is doing okay. Adam Coon won a world silver training there part-time during college. Aaron Brooks is wrestling for a spot on the national team. Cohlton Schultz has trained there off and on since he was a kid since he grew up an hour away. And of course 15 years ago was this dude named Henry Cejudo. You should check out his story when you have time.
  10. Are you in it for glory or for money?
  11. This thread is blowing up bigger than a J'Den Cox OTT weigh-in! But this conversation needs to dig deep and lift 665 pounds of dead weight to catch up with our Iran brothers and I don't care how far a Focus can go, these Ferrari wheels just won't cut it if we are looking at the bigger picture folks. We have 75 pages to go and call me for stolling all you want but I'll take a shot in the dark and throw a turk to get the ball rolling because I'm an eagle and I fly around the jungle and hang out with the lions and tigers and bears and wolves.
  12. I thought it was strictly individual points earned after the most recent rule changes? Not complaining in the slightest if I’m wrong though!
  13. And to make it really fun, tell ’em the mountains are blue when they need to cut loose once a month
  14. Also @nhs67 I really like you even if you root for the better engineering school and use the word keggers
  15. Look, I’ve played rugby with the best of them. But here in the States that word doesn’t fly. You’re better than this and the fact that I of all people has to say that should speak volumes. Once every five-ten years is more than enough, but at least 3x in a week or two? Be better than that. I already REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED ZAHID REDACTED STATE-WEIGHTCLASS REDACTED and then edited + requested hide because I wrote some crappy shit. Be better than me, and be better than that word. It’s not ours to own.
  16. They are welcome to immediately go to the US Olympic Training Center and join the Elite Accelerator Program anytime and/or not prioritize participation in NCAA folkstyle at any time. It worked for Cejudo, Snyder, and Aaron Brooks.
  17. Bye to the semis next year once she gets another medal. By remaining at 72 this year she can pursue more career accomplishments means more money, means more in the career discussions, and means two more matches next year. If she didn’t win the spot this year at 76 then gets none of the above. It’s a calculated risk versus bumping this year and walking away with nothing.
  18. Now Lee can’t even win with the level-headed Iowa fans. That was quick.
  19. Lee has wrestled hurt how many times? And look where that has gotten him. So pull out before further damage happens.
  20. I have learned two things: never bet against Sadulaev and never bet against Steveson. One could only hope, given that Sadulaev is now going against time rather than medals, that if Steveson wins another title in '23 then a properly motivated Sadulaev [if Russia is allowed] goes up to 125 for '24 Paris Olympics
  21. Phoenix would be a great option. I would go 1) Nashville 2) Phoenix 3) Atlanta if I were to rank non-traditional NCAA sites. Anyone who complains about Phoenix is most likely an east coaster who doesn’t want *a dose of the same medicine that the western schools have to endure without complaint year in and year out.
  22. What if the Olympic weights were, idk, 92 and 125? where does that leave Cox, Taylor, and Snyder?
  23. False. It is an arbitrary achievement. 10 medals versus 6 minimized weight classes? An athlete is lesser if they peak in the wrong 12 month period of an every-fourth-year cycle? The olympics are a machination that somehow supersedes a "standard" world title because NBC says so and the current example with extremely limited participation is a brutal bastardization of our sport.
  24. I respect your opinion and I also agree that Taylor is now, without any shadow of a doubt, the best 86 in the world. I also acknowledge that Taylor was the behind the #1 pfp king, the same as I do for Snyder now. He was also behind Dake. Again, a world champion 3x over. Neither is a slight against Taylor. He also lost out on a spot to Cox not just once but twice. Cox was "only" (semantics because god knows I could never sniff a world medalist's...) a 2x bronze at 86 before Cox moved up to become a 2x world champ at 92 and Taylor ascended. Does he lose sleep? No. Does it gnaw away? Yep. Does it motivate? You betcha.
