IMO senior worlds is a much tougher road to medal than an Olympic medal when it comes to day-of competition in my mind. The sheer number of matches in each bracket + random draws, like Taylor/Yazdani round 1 in 2018, is absolutely nuts.

All rankings tournaments are published months in advance. All competitors are aware of the seeding implications. It is their decision to either chase points or not.

Correct, it doesn't mean too much but is enough to get you a 7 seed. That's why they have rankings tournaments throughout the year. If you don't go to the rankings tournaments then you drop in seeding.
