Seems to be doing a great job for someone with limited experience. Great chemistry with Sparks. Knowledgeable about techniques, tactics, and strategy. Good anecdotes. Knows wrestlers from across the nation and from all the weights, not just his own. Maybe as the night went on, he did a little play by play when he shouldn't have. The thing that impressed me the most was that he didn't get overly excited or disappointed when his current/former teammates were involved in close matches. If you didn't know he wrestled for NC State a year ago, you wouldn't have been able to guess his alma mater. Compare that to Dan Gable who hasn't coached Iowa in almost 30 years when he is doing commentary and a Hawkeye is wrestling.7 points

Guess I’ll be watching the sport by myself for another decade.7 points

Keck and McEnelly just went to wrestling hell together. WHAT A MATCH. For a 4-1 match that had so much action. McEnelly is such a great young wrestler. Wow.6 points

Freestyle sucks. Trust me. I have been watching wrestling for over a year now.6 points

With Ohio States luck with the brick so far, wouldn’t be surprised if Bartlett awarded 35 points

It's over. The Braunagels can't hurt me anymore. Seven seasons from each of them with a total of 5 NCAA wins between them after winning every age group from Super 32 to Fargo. Le sigh.5 points

If guys weren't on their 7th year of college wrestling, McEnelly might be a 4 timer4 points

Wins like that aren't wins of the heart. Got to feel for Fish and Saldate there. At least the Stout bros were early on and neither were eliminated (at that time).4 points

Narcissist? Cringe? Maybe you mean Bo Nickal. Or maybe you mean the 'Stepford wives' Penn State. Afterall 'Girls just want to have "fun"'. Jordan Burroughs saved a dying sport.4 points

The Huskers are on the cusp of history. Unless my memory fails me, the best finish for them is 3rd in 1993. The Huskers had 6 AA with two in the finals and one champ. 7 guys in rnd of 12. This is the year Lindland was undefeated #1 and loses to Earl Walker first round, and out. 79.5 points. different scoring system. 8 points out of 2nd. But having 9 in the Rnd of 12 is amazing for Nebraska and Manning and the coaching staff. Simply incredible is this age of NIL.3 points

Uhhh Gable was 21 when we won the Olympics beating two much more accomplished guys than Neal along the way.3 points

If Mac Stout has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Mac Stout has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Mac Stout has only one fan then that is me. If Mac Stout has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Mac Stout, then I am against the world.3 points

Who ya got? There are 5 Dark Horses alive on the championship side of the bracket: 133 Angelo Rini IND 157 Trevor Chumbley NW 174 Lennox Wolak VT 197 Seth Shumate OSU 197 Gabe Sollars IND (on a side note - great job, Angel Escobedo) And there are another 89, seeded 17 - 33, still alive in the consolation bracket. I like both #33's Teague Travis (149) and Chandler Amaker (165)3 points

Penn State apparently had Bartlett give the pep talk this morning. Or maybe Starocci.3 points

Lovett vs Webster going to be a real different match than if it was Saturday night. Like maybe 100LBs different.3 points

Have Ryan and Co. never seen Ayala wrestle? WTF plan was that? He basically launched himself into at least 3 of those slide-bys. By the way, excellent coaching by Iowa there. 7 takedowns, like 23 seconds of riding.3 points

Allow more leeway for refs to use common sense on the step out calls. Seen too many matches where the guy taking all the shots gets pushed out once when he's near the edge and is hit for stalling.3 points

We need to get the rest of the world wrestling folkstyle instead. Can you imagine the excitement of riding clock hitting 1:00 at the same time the match clock its 0:00 to win a gold medal in the Olympics?3 points

My biggest shocker was Zan Fugitt knocking off #4 seed Nasir Bailey 4-1 This was a big win for the young Badger! #firebono3 points

It is very risky "buying" a guy for a year that is in his 6th or 7th year of college wrestling......the wear and tear on the body is real......... Iowa has money to burn, and if they could develop them they would be way better off "buying" younger top level prospects off other programs........ Not a fan of NIL or Iowa for that matter, so would hate to see it, but it seems like it will unevitably be the trend........3 points

Hidlay has beenn exceptional. Between him on ESPN, and Malik Amine on BTN, there is some great new talent.3 points

Hidlay has been a breath of fresh air. The worst part of the entire weekend will be Saturday night when there's no longer matcast and we go to an insufferable narcissist like Burroughs talking to hear himself talk and making things about himself. Hidlay's strong performance is going to make that difference even more pronounced.3 points

People like reverting back to the "best NCAA performance" yet don't look further. Of course they did. Their weight classes cleared out and they arguably were worse at Iowa. Eirmann was beating Nick Lee when he was at Missouri. Woods was the second highest placing returner and placed second. Then got worse the more time he spent in the Iowa room.3 points

I agree with you. I think it's also so much different now than it was even 15 years ago. For the most part, 15 years ago guys wrestled their high school schedule, NWCA nationals, Fargo, and maybe another big event or two. Most blue-chip recruits would only be truly tested in a handful of matches each year in high school, and cruise their way through most of their high school careers. Now, guys are beating up their bodies through high school with things like WNO, 16u WTT, 20u WTT, Super-32, and already coming into college with more wear. They then beat their bodies down further by prolonging eligibility with the ease of medicals, covid-years, frequency of Olympic redshirts, etc. The rigor of a college wrestling schedule is not conducive to what a 24-25 year body requires to perform at it's peak.3 points

This may shock you all, but a person who believes his own children should not get immunized against the majority of the world's worst defensible diseases such as measles, mumps, and rubella probably doesn't have the highest level of intellect.3 points
