I’d start with an easy one like, “How many sides does a triangle have?” That’d knock about half of the votes down a notch. Probably increase it to something like, “How many states make up the US?” (Barrack said 57, Biden said 54… so this is a bit trickier) Then cap it off with a doozy like, “Which political party did Abraham Lincoln belong to?”3 points

Well—I’m not a Northwestern guy and don't profess know a ton about the program--but I will get to know them and I am intrigued how coaches outside the blue chip programs (PSU, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio St., etc) adjust to the changing college wrestling landscape. Let me be clear—I don’t blame this Johnson kid at all. Nor do I blame the three transfers for their decisions. I totally understand their decisions. All I am saying is that it isn’t Storniolo’s fault that there was widespread hazing in the football program—that Fitzgerald was fired for it and Storniolo loses his prize dual sport recruit. And it comes on the heels of the transfer debacle, making it another big blow to a team that carries a small roster. And so, by all accounts, I have heard the three transfers are leaving NW on good terms and thankful for what the program did for them. They just got offered a bag of money from the new NIL rules that may be crippling to a program like NW. Again—I do not blame these kids at all. But Storniolo coached those three kids to be AAs. I am sure he put his heart into getting them there and on the podium--which ironically is what got them the money and caused them to leave. When they left in like April (?) he seemed to be left high and dry. It has to be next to impossible to find transfers or 2023 recruits that can meet the rigorous NW academic standards and be capable of credibly filling AA shoes at that late date. Again--circumstances beyond his control. So his program is now faced with taking a public beating in the brutal Big 10. A program that has actually done very well under his watch for the last 5 years or so. And it is not because he hasn’t done his job well or he has mistreated kids, or allowed anything bad to go on in his program (at least not to my knowledge). Seems like a good coach that is a bit of a victim of circumstances here. His program was crippled through no fault of his own. So yeah, I will say he didn't deserve this. I guess that’s my view.3 points

Best weather forecast for tournament week I can recall. My first year was well over 100 degrees and we stayed in the non-AC dorms. I wasn’t cutting weight but I definitely lost weight by simply existing that year.2 points

The same guy as Joe… that’s how they busted him. An anonymous source quoted Biden as saying, “Hey, I know that bugger. He was awfully heated when I got $5 million and he only got $1 million from that Oriental fella we met at that place with the good crab ragoons. I told him to pipe down or I’d call up Corn Pop to give him a good whack on the ol’ noggin. Dr. Jill? Where’s my Klondike bar? It was in my briefcase this morning, but now there’s just chocolate milk.”2 points

We are a heartbeat of an 80-year-old with dementia and on a CPAP machine away from these being the public comments of the most powerful person on Earth: 1.) "I think the first part of this issue that should be articulated is AI is kind of a fancy thing. First of all, it's two letters. It means artificial intelligence.” 2.) "This issue of transportation is fundamentally about just making sure that people have the ability to get where they need to go!“ 3.) "So I think it's very important — as you have heard from so many incredible leaders for us at every moment in time and certainly this one — to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past but the future,"2 points

8 people (nine if you include Zahid) would have said no before they landed at Hale. Ramirez didn’t even place at the US Open so his ladder spot is purely hypothetical. This is no offense to Ramirez or Hale, all shade is thrown toward USAW. I’m surprised Brooks declined the opportunity to compete abroad. Even Taylor competed at the Spanish Grand Prix… If we sent Mitch Messenbrink and Bennet Berge at least they would have gotten a peek at the senior level.1 point

Our old pal Destribats is wrestling on Mat A now... and his singlet looks like he broke out of jail! (Horizontal blue stripes, yikes!) Currently, he's behind the Albanian 5-0 at the break. Gotta shut down. Time for me to go to work. D31 point

Now I've seen it all. Musukaev with a come-from-behind win over China. Down 8-4 in the second period. He relishes the :30 break like a guy walking into a bordello with somebody else's platinum Visa card. There was an injury timeout and the soccer spray can for the boo boo. America back on the board with a Parris win over Italy.1 point

The WATCH PARTY starts in about an hour. Taking Mat A at approximately 4:30 am (Eastern) and 3:30 am (Central) is America's Zane Richards. He will be wrestling a tough Georgian. This fellow from Georgia looks like Liam Cronin's stronger and bigger Eastern Bloc uncle. I did a Moneyball look at Bujiashvili prior to the World Cup, but Zane didn't wrestle this guy, Suriano did. Anyway, here's that scouting report: In the first round of the ranking series tournament, Zane Richards will wrestle Beka Bujiashvili of Georgia. Certainly not the easiest possible draw, but also a guy the IRTC athlete can handle. We did a Moneyball look at this fellow before because he was a potential opponent for Zane at the World Cup. They did not wrestle. Instead, Suriano handled him 6-3. Here is video of a match between him and Suriano in a ranking series event, which Suriano won 2-1. (Requires FloWrestling sub). He looks like a bearded Liam Cronin here. THE GEORGIAN: BEKA BUJIASHVILI This fellow must see a lot of his fellow countryman and former gold and silver World Championship medalist Beka Lomtadze, who won his medals at 61kg and most recently competed at 65kg. Beka Bujiashvili has been less successful. He is still a very good and dangerous wrestler. In terms of height and weight, he looks like a Caucasus region brother of Zane Richards. He is well-muscled, though not as well-defined as Zane, not particularly tall and has quite a head of hair. He's been around forever, having first wrestled internationally in 2009. He won a bronze medal in 2013 in the Junior World Championships. Since then, he's won a weight class at the Henri Deglane tournament. The Georgian finished 12th in the 2022 World Championships beating an over-matched Spaniard, but then losing to Hasagawa of Japan. He had a fifth-place finish at Matteo Pellicone, but that entailed one win and two losses, though he seemed injured in at least two of his matches (lower back). He did finish third in this year's Russia-less European Championships, which entailed two wins and one loss. Finally, he finished second at Yasar Dogu with a four-and-one record. SPECIAL: Bujiashvili has used a head in leglace, which has been successful. At other times, even when he falls into them after a successful double, he just doesn't seem to know where to begin. He will lead with his right leg even when shaking hands. He will usually use his right leg to gain ground as well. On occasion, he will wrestle from one knee. His arm throw is fast and dangerous. One of the best I've ever seen. He'll roll into it without tying up first. Beka will take a two-on-one and sit through for a very interesting takedown attempt, kicking his opponent over him. He'll also go for a high crotch from the two-on-one. He will often shoot on the whistle. Be ready to defend his incredible arm throw and two-on-one, and you should have success against him. Here are his Moneyball stats:1 point

i watched a bunch of it. a lot of theater for sure. the non answers with these things (just like the Jan 6th hearings) are to be expected and yet still frustrating. overall - i think it's pretty evident the FBI is corrupt/flawed in that they take directives from politicians. i was pleasantly surprised that Jayalp pressed Wray.1 point

There’s a lot to this whole case that I could sit here and type out, all of it based on time I’ve spent seeking info on on it, because in the first year or so after 1/6 I felt like it was a important piece. Instead I’ll just relate what I’m seeing here, which is a good bit of “I haven’t really paid a lot of attention to…” -But- “I still know what happened and who’s to blame” I mean, what can I say? You can either buy what you’re fed, or not. It’s not up to me to convince anyone of anything. People that really want to know about something will seek it out.1 point

changing the language to fit your fantasy world is a feature. not a bug. and we were told this as a warning many years ago.1 point

Sure, that bonus hole thing sounds ridiculous, but from what I can tell it comes from one random charity in England where they offered it in their literature as a suggested alternative to check w/ people if they'd be more comfortable with that language, not a demand from the medical community that the language be changed for everybody all over the world. So yes, it sounds stupid to me, but it's a tiny thing from one group offered as a suggestion, not a "rebranding of the vagina." If we're going to get mad about every dumb thing someone says in the world...1 point

Nobody even scored a point against Gable during the '72 Olympics in Munich. I got to meet a couple of guys from that team over the next couple of years, Gable, Peterson brothers, Chris Taylor. I met Chris at Russ Houk's Wrestling Camp. Anyone remember that? The race around the lake? Back then, it was really special to be able to see and meet big time wrestlers. We did not travel like we do now, and the information was far more limited.1 point
