Very simple, huh? I guess that's why a half dozen of the smartest people I've run into on here have discussed it for almost two pages. I'll paraphrase your statement: I'll sell you this cup for $100. Then you'll have to pay someone (?) to fill the cup with what you want to drink for an an additional cost (?). Crystal clear.3 points

The cornerstone of "Total Quality Management" as defined and taught by W. Edwards Deming was to meet the customer's requirements. This has been replaced in many of today's companies (especially the "cool kids" typified here), who are concerned only with meeting their own requirements. Customers? We don't need no stinking customers. I simply refuse to play the "bait and switch" game so common with the "content providers" anymore. Clearly and concisely define the cost and the product for the dumb guys like me who are not so good at the fuzzy wuzzy stuff. Oh yeah, and also who dislike surprises3 points

It's also a barrier to entry. How many people would have paid a higher base monthly bill and watched more wrestling? How many people pay the base but balk at paying the PPV for events? If they had a smart model, there would be a revenue sharing agreement that the consumer was blind to. With this stuff, the consumer sees everything and may decide not to purchase. Fewer events make money this way.3 points

That sounds to me like the initial estimated economics from the platform did not work as well as hoped (it happens with projections), so individual channels requested the PPV option?3 points

Sure. A small number of people will pay for the PPV for each tournament. I would argue this is a worse outcome and business model than having everybody pay a bit more and having all tournaments available to everyone.2 points

They obviously believe only us expert wrestling dummies will pay, so why even give 'Joe wrestling fan' a chance. Double Paywall/Double Secret Probation...it all seems sneaky.2 points

I'm looking forward to the 197 bracket with Rocky Elam, Bernie Truax and Zac Braunagel. Michael O'Malley, Peyton Mocco and Edmond Ruth at 174. Lucas Byrd ragdolling everyone at 133 because he's pissed off, the 165 semis, and Brock Mauller versus Kevin Davenport. Cheers!2 points

You're missing what I'm saying. In terms of numbers of wrestlers that compete, on an annual basis, at the NCAA level, the weights that have the most numbers are 141-149-157, which is exactly where you're thinning out. The weights with the least numbers are 184 and 197, which is exactly where you're adding more weights. (I've literally been looking at these numbers every year for the past 12 years or so, with the exception of 2021, where everything was screwed up due to the truncated schedule)2 points

I would also be willing to pay more. If there was a 'tier' sort of setup I definitely would. Something like what is current with the $10 and the PPV option, but give me a $15/mo option to unlock all of it, and I am in as well.1 point

it works better for both daily content creators (like me) and individual event promoters (like Frank Pop) that both are in play. i wouldn't say the single/initial plan didn't work. i think it worked quite will. but that this (from a creator's pov) was more equitable. of course, it's up to the event promoter to use the ppv or not. that's not determined by the platform.1 point

https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2022/November/10/Beat-the-Streets-LA-Gala-and-International-Wrestling-Event The U.S. women’s freestyle lineup is highlighted by Amit Elor, who made history this year becoming the first American to win three World titles in one season, claiming gold at the U20, U23 and Senior levels. She is joined by 2019 World champion Jacarra Winchester and two-time World medalist Mallory Velte. Add in U23 World medalists Alex Hedrick and Dymond Guilford and 2021 Senior World fifth-place finisher Amy Fearnside for an incredible USA roster. For Ukraine, it’ll feature Senior World bronze medalists Oksana Livach and Alina Hrushyna, who is also a U23 World champion, as well as U23 World bronze medalists Liliya Malanchuk, Anastasiia Osniach and Ilona Prokopeveniuk. Rounding out the lineup is Tokyo Olympian Alla Belinska.1 point

Uncle Bernard is right. Rs should have slam dunked this one. The economy, the covid, the inflation, the debt, etc should have tanked the Ds. But my point remains, Ds and Is are deathly afraid of Trump or anyone associated with him. Some Rs are too. Trump is toxic and I think the result we have with this midterm is directly related to Trump. I don't know how all of his candidates did, but high profile ones didn't do well. I heard a guy on the radio saying that anyone that is R running for office will do the will of Trump no matter what. I think there is enough of that sentiment that it tanked the Rs tsunami. mspart1 point

I was with an old buddy at the NYS tournament quite a few years ago (his two boys were wrestling there). We were watching a match where the brackets showed one kid was 46-0 and the other kid was something like 22-12. The 22-12 kid was pretty much having his way with the #1 seed. My buddy said, "Apparently, that kid doesn't know he's 46-0." I still snicker about that.1 point
