One of those Marmion teams had 3 dudes that I thought were sure-fire/can't miss prospects: Whitford, Cortez, and Brill. None of them lived up to the hype in college.

Earl Walker

Sheldon Thomas

Matt Valenti

Dustin Schlatter

Sheldon doesn't get near the respect he should.

He wasn't a one-hit wonder or an anomaly. He was first team ASICS AA and a National Champ.

Noah Adams, 30-0 Big 12 champ and 2-0 vs Buchanan in 2020 before covid shut it down. 2021 was 14-5 going 0-4 vs Buchanan with two of those loses coming post season. 0-2 at ncaas to Buchanan and Rocky Elam. Had one more year eligibility but decided to become a law enforcement officer I believe.

He coached me out in Fargo when I went.

Incredibly disrespectful to not refer to the man by his name. We all know who you’re talking about it’s just rude

Cautionary tales of over-parenting, injuries, and ambitions outside of wrestling.

Brill was a great kid, good parents doing the right things, injuries got him.  Cortez with the moving around a concern in my book.

The kids were all good from what I had always heard. Like I said, different cautionary tales that every prospective college (and beyond) athlete should recognize and respect. I don't know any of them or their families personally, maybe a random interaction years ago at best.

Someone my dad talked about, Terry Williams from Bald Eagle Nittany HS in the late 70s.  1, 1, 2, 1 in PIAA AA, all at 155.  Not sure he even went to college.  Seemed to fall off the face of the earth.
