Yes, in a pure capitalistic sense...but our sport really exists (in modern times) on the largesse of other sports.  Sports socialism, if you will.

The sport yes, but not the NIL dollars.

Here’s the clip for reference, it is a bit misleading bc it cuts out right before he says he doesn’t think it’s sustainable for PSU or OSU to spend that much money either

Yes -True - but athletes are not limited to just what the school is going to pay out to them, which in the case of wrestling will be nothing in most cases - as we all know.  Compared to what the arbitrator will see in football cases, the wrestling cases will be peanuts, which I hope results in few obstacles for wrestling

That's probably a good point. Also, what stopping these athletes from getting a lawyer and taking each decision from Deloitte to court. That seems to be happening a lot there days.

Guess we will need to wait until it happens to someone from Cornell

It's more difficult now that BB became available after signing AJ.   It also gets complicated in that Nebraska is known to take care of the ones that are already there, so there is little to no NIL money left for immediate use.

Willie and Basch also predicted PSU.

I think they have now reversed and said they think it will NOT be PSU, although they think OSU isn't a good fit.

It seems like even with the new NIL rules, it's going to be easy for people to cheat.  They just need one of Buffet's Berskshire Hathaway guys that loves Nebraska wrestling, or maybe Larry the Cable Guy can help, or is he just a football fan.

Out of the three finalists I’m hoping for Nebraska.  Find the money.

He stole from little kids, at the very least... and that isn't even getting in to the $hit he allegedly did.

NIL is a cancer

Yeah, NIL has some nice things, but it will for sure be the downfall of Div 1 wrestling.

NIL as it was supposed to be is totally fine; but it was the NCAA refusing to allow/police it from the start that let it immediately become the wild wild west of pay for play that got us where we are

We all knew they wouldn't be able to police it.

Don't count Nebraska out.

More money in farm & ranch areas than some realize.

One of my neighbors has a medium size farm operation and last year saw him with $13 million in crop sales. Was not a banner year due to some drought conditions.

Nebraska will come up with the dollars if the kid is serious.

Hope Manning giving Focus a chance works out for everyone.

And what was his fertilizer, chemical and fuel bill?

$13 million in crop sales and someone ate the profits.  Now owe $14 million. I hope Nebraska gets him but you need to put the spoon down.

Not to mention the fleet of million dollar combines.

His two latest combines were bought new from the John Deere dealer, GPS systems & all - $485,000 each.

Past few years they have been switching from 8 & 12 wheel tractors to Trac drives. Fewer pounds per square inch on the ground & easier when it is a bit wet.

Fuel costs but with GPS systems accurate to +- one inch there is little fuel wasted on double planting/disking and whatnot. Ammonia & round up ready seeds, spraying for pests & such do cost. Instead of spraying machinery he uses our local Crop duster. Costs a bit, gets it done quicker and has no sunk cost in machinery for it. The pilots love it. 2 miles of unobstructed spraying on some of his fields with no power lines or trees to worry about.

Good tax planning with kids and grandkids factored in for the future.

Nicest part of North Dakota farming and ranching is NO Corporate farms. Closely held family Corporation is the limit - living North Dakota resident owned. No Monsanto, Simplot or the big outfits. It is illegal for them to own the farms & ranches. The State works hard to protect the Family Farm.

A bit South is a nice Bison ranch. Good herd, rolling hills & some nice lakes & ponds. Scenic & no power lines or towers. Movie and TV types come in to photograph them from time to time.

Many of the farmers have College degrees. Some with Masters & a few PhD's in the mix. Plant geneticists and seed companies all over the place. Ever more productive crops. Machinery is so expensive and computerized now you almost need a college degree to run it.

The local High School has both Boys and Girls wrestling teams, trap shooting and Olympic style rifle team.

Small towns, not many people. Open and relaxing. Fargo is a few hours East of us. We're up near the Canadian border. Prairie pothole country with ducks & geese & moose & elk & deer and good fishing as well.

Now if only UND would get a wrestling team and NDSU would catch fire with theirs.

Getting a little off-topic here, but doesn't Bill Gates own some North Dakota farmland? I don't know how strong those laws banning "corporate farms" are if this is the case... Bill Gates’ North Dakota Farmland Purchase Approved by the Attorney General - AgWeb

I guess it is something that the purchase of land by out of state LLCs has to be approved by the state attorney general. How often does the AG nix a deal?
