That is fair to say, but the context around Downey matters too.  He had at least a few run ins with the law before this and had worn out his welcome at several secondary schools and colleges along the way.  He had an altercation with Heflin at the WTT where he challenged him to fight in the parking lot after their match.  If Downey had an impeccable disciplinary record prior to this tweets he probably would have been treated differently too.

See I think it's a big double standard and one I pointed out right when this happened was going to serve kyle. One that shows being fake is more well served in today's society then being true.

I am not super familiar with downeys legal problems , but it doesn't appear that they occured during his stint with USA wrestling. Which kinda matters. Wearing out his welcome at colleges should have zero bearing on USA wrestling as an organization as a separate entity.

Accounts of USA wrestling should not be based on heresy of who people think is a douchebag and personal likeability status, but on the letter of what law is being violated

Tweeting about women's wrestling is 50x less bad then being a serial solicitor of prostitution. Not even in the same stratosphere.

Wasn’t Kyle suspended from usaw today ?   Or did I mis read or make it up?

Yes. He was banned for a whole year, unfortunately being a ***duck**wit isn't a good enough reason, but threatening to beat up female wrestlers is.

Was there ever any press release or anything about this?  I honestly don’t remember.  I’ve tried googling and can’t find much other than he was dropped by NJRTC which is an employer and different from a sport governing body.

I haven't seen that. No one has even said that's a possibility from commentary I've seen. The going narrative has been if Kyle "chooses" to participate in final x

I don't think so. Maybe a brief thing somewhere, but USA Wrestling considered him a nuisance.

In addition to that, wasn't there also the rumor that he posted revenge p*rn?

Or was that before his time there?

Gtfo. First part is he was found criminally innocent

More strawman "threatened to beat someone up" Lololololol as a reason. Literally said by tons of guys such as storroci all the time as an act and obvious fake

Trashed women's wrestling for stating a factual opinion ?

Clearly you have no bias

"Not being liked " is the crime Downey committed

Better to to be fake guy who deceives to the public but is liked

The amount of virtue signaling right now is INSANE

Never seen so many fn paragraphs of God this god that verse this verse that everyone has closets ....don't judge others I sin too

Let's just call it what it is. People like Kyle Snyder and don't think he's a douchebag. People hate Downey and think he's a douchebag. No one had any damn paragraphs about God and judging others for downey. Everyone looks like a big hypocrite just like Snyder right now.

They backward rationalize and draw the moral line based on exactly such.

Nope but as someone with a high moral standard I see through obvious bull and it actually pisses me off ....the reaction by fans is actually looking more hypocrital then Snyder

Everything is going exactly how I said it would.

- Snyder would get the benefit of the doubt due to his past to where others wouldn't

-this make him more relatable , (everyone seems to be pointing out their own flaws)

-after the initial shock this is not going to impact him as much as people think...rudis and nlwc is still very possible

I don't know if double standard applies, but it is a different standard.  I am also not convinced that the difference is due to being fake vs being true so much as having a very troubled past vs having a problem free past.  Both may play a roll, but I think the later is the more significant issue.  AJ Ferrari encountered this when looking for a new program after leaving OSU.  One might assess his religious views to be closer to closer to Kyle Snyder than Pat Downey and that they are incongruent with his off the mat behavior making him "fake." He said in an interview he chose Bakersfield not because they offered the most $$ or were his only offer, but every other school said he'd be starting with two strikes and if he messed up once he was out.  Citing bible versus did not help him much.

The worst charges he faced were assault and robbery which occurred in 2009 and 2010 and he could have faced 35 years in prison if convicted of all counts.  He won Fargo in 2011 and represented the US at Junior Worlds in 2012, so he was definitely a USAW member those years.  I would be pretty surprised if he was a USAW member for the first time in 2011.  It is likely that he was he was a USAW member for them or at least prior to them.

Past behaviour at other institutions definitely matters.  Most obviously with USAW it matters in the background screening they require of adult national team members and all coaches.  Downey would have been subject to this in 2012 when he made the junior world team and in 2019 when he made the senior world team and if he was ever a coach.  His criminal conviction should have come up.

Isn't that how it should work?  First time offenders should be treated less harshly than repeat offenders.

I think it will impact him more than people think.  Sure he might not get any jail time and might not miss much time on the mat, but it could blow up his personal life which tanks his wrestling career.  Look at what happened to Tiger Woods.  He had a pretty outstanding reputation and after his infidelity scandal he didn't win another major for a decade. How many sponsors were lining up to sign him after that?  Snyder probably doesn't have a decade to win fans back.

Rudis has already scrubbed all references to him from their website.  With Snyder's career already on he decline how likely are they to re-sign him ever?  Won't that advertising money be better spent on a younger athlete with more promise like Aaron Brooks?

The safe sport suspension likely puts him out of Final X.  Can he get it lifted in less than a month?  Unlikely.

The worst part of the Tiger Woods fallout was they ended his line of Gatorades. Those were the best flavors in the history of Gatorade. Damn you, Tiger. DAMN YOU!
