Psu misplayed this for sure. Everyone acting like Rocco just walked on there when in reality they paid him way more than Ryder and that didn’t go over well. It’s one thing to bring someone on a level playing field ala dean/beard but this was different circumstances and it pissed people off.

So...Rocco didn't approach them? PSU approached him before the season was over and they gave him more than Ryder?

You think Welsh is lying to make his new program look good?

I do think this is a bad move on their part as I think it makes them marginally better, but the only '74/'84 I'd try and bring in this year would be the kid from Minnesota.

Rocco approached them about the transfer but it wasn’t a done deal until they worked out the financial side of things. That is where the friction began on Ryder’s side because yes they paid Rocco quite a bit.

Ok...well...fair enough.

Who does the negotiations? It just doesn't feel like it's Cael or the staff, but they must run it by them or they'd effectively do the recruiting.

Was this in the works for a month though...in one way or another?

One last question...as I'll assume you know what you're talking about. I've seen Welsh and Duke are close. Ryder and Duke were teammates.
You think Duke was...involved in any of this? If Duke made it known he wanted to Wrestle with his old HS teammate vs whatever Welsh and Duke would have trained or worked out together.

Why wouldn't you do this?
Would it be because you'd be worried about the PJ Duke types leaving or do you think this does anything to PSU's recruiting?

Pretty unlikely.

I don't believe any team in the country is turning down Welsh. I don't think Iowa is doing it, I don't think Missouri is doing it. I think is ONE should have, it should have been PSU, but then you factor in he's from Penn, just outside Pitt and he was apparently close to Duke, their prized recruit(though...that has really lost all meaning when they're ALL prized recruits).

I don't know. Welsh is obviously getting paid for his services, and if you're Iowa, or Missouri, why pay a guy to come fill a weight where you have a high caliber wrestler? It would make more sense to bring in a guy at a weight of need. PSU is the only team with such an embarrassment of riches that they would bring in a Rocco when they have a Ryder at home.

So you are saying there was no inclination that Ryder might transfer prior to the talks with Welsh?

I think he wanted in and you need to evaluate, but I would think your 4 year man would be equally supported if not more.

Yes you nailed it in the bold.

Who is close to Duke?  I thought it was his high school teammate Ryder, not Welsh?

You really think these guys need extra motivation at this level?

Who did Brands start over that he shouln't have? Arnold last year? I'm not disputing, I don't know.

And I would be surprised if that happened with either Cunningham. I wouldn't be shocked if the two Cunningham's won the job if they were 51/49. Like...say Haines and O'Toole, they start Haines.

There is more than one Cunningham kid?  Scary!

Not just no inclination, the opposite

I laughed out loud twice when reading this. First, when he says he wants to set the record straight. For a guy who is notorious for deleting the record when it is his record that needs to be set straight is rich.

Then when he says he is in awe of the narratives set up by some. That is his entire existence. Setting up narratives. True, false, uncertain? Who gives a crap. Delete the truly stupid takes, block anyone who keeps track, and move on.

His high road attempt makes me disrespect him more.

But, I believe what he is saying that Ryder was blindsided.

Agreed on all accounts.

So he’s saying he spoke with Ryder’s family, which is weird to start with IMO.  But if that’s true, it could have been a biased perspective.  Also could be the truth, I don’t think we really know.

Especially in light of Ryder being at every session of NCAAs and excitedly cheering his team on.  It seems he was all-in for PSU.

Captain Full of Crap strikes again. For all we know, "family" could mean someone on twitter who claims to be Ryder's uncle 7x removed and twice divorced. And of course when this randomly gets deleted it's like it never happened!

No idea who is in charge of negotiations.

Not aware of anything related to Duke.
