As an Iowa fan I’d put TnT at 6. The top 3 are pretty solid though.

Iowa coaching staff does have problems, and I would like to see some new assistants, but the biggest problem any coach at Iowa isn going to have is that they're the only program in the country that is held to the standard of "be better than Penn State."  There is no program that is consistently above them. To make it more difficult, their also held to the standard of their own history. So they have to be better than two legends, Sanderson and Gable.  One is impossible since he's retired, and the other is on as historic a run as Gable went on. 

Nobody else is held to this standard. Nobody. That said, I would move on from Telford and shift M* into a recruiting coordinator position, and bring in new coaches in those roles, preferably outside of the Iowa family to get some new blood.

Terry, specifically, is one of the very best coaches in the country; people swear by him.  The Brands brothers are one of the draws of the program whether you want to admit it or not.  Ask Spencer Lee why he came to Iowa.

So the standard of being the best is too much for Iowa? That’s an interesting take. 
 

Even so, the standard doesn’t have to be as high as beating Penn State. How about produce a National Champion? Just one besides Spencer Lee. They’re able to bring in the best recruits, have every resource you could possibly need, recruit half their roster from the Portal, and still… no individuals stand at the top of the podium. They scrape by just getting somebody into the finals! If Tom and Terry were as great as you claim you’d think somebody could sneak onto the podium (outside of a generational talent)

I am not a big Iowa fan but have to admit, the generational talent is the Penn St team.  Their coaches are amazing at getting the best kids and making them better.  Watching Kusak, Mess, and Levi chain wrestle through positions is truly unbelievable.  Can you imagine what that room is like?  If not beating them means you change your coach, who will be left?  I understand the frustration but at least Iowa had their run with Gable.  What about the rest of the teams?  Iowa is still the second best program in the country on average and somebody is coaching that program and bringing in talent.

No, it isn't, but that's not the same thing as can't coach.  They are literally the last team/staff to beat Penn State, but spoiler alert, it's not that easy to do, and ain't nobody else close either. In fact, they have beaten Penn State more than anybody else in the country during Cael's run.

The very valid criticism of Iowa relates to the lack of champs. Time and time again Iowa wrestlers will have outstanding regular seasons only to come up short at the big dance. This is a trend that has grown too big for even this Hawkeye homer to ignore. That being said, what are the realistic changes that can take place? What available coaches could immediately improve results? because you can bet your buns that Iowa fans (particularly the donor base) will not entertain a grace period

A successful Iowa program is good for college wrestling IMO. That said, Iowa is at a recruiting disadvantage compared to Penn State simply because Pennsylvania routinely produces more elite wrestlers.  

Hopefully Iowa hires assistant coaches from the Penn State system, because that is the system that works these days.

NLWC has been a huge recruiting advantage for Penn State. Spencer Lee at HWC should help.

I would guess Arnold will transfer out so that he doesn't have to ride the pine.

I think Deluca may be a lifer at 125 to my knowledge he makes 120 fairly easily right now and is a senior. I would put Gabe in at 174 and maybe PK cuts a leg off to make 157. If all the speculation comes true, they could be the best team from 165 up next year with Kerk and Carter being done. Depending on NCAA's I would think they would be top 5 at every weight. I think if Deluca is beating Cruz you just let him go right away and then they just need to figure out 141/149 I think estrada can do ok at 157. Maybe you recruit the Raneys give them each half a cow and tell them to reclassify.

Aside from Otoguru all those people are pretty unaccomplished in terms of senior level results, no?  Especially when compared to NLWC.
