I had a lot of friends at Iowa from Illinois that did this exact thing

It's been that way for a LONG time, speaking as someone who grew up in the Chicago suburbs. Iowa is the school for Chicagoland kids who didn't get into Illinois, and Marquette is for Chicagoland kids who didn't get into Notre Dame.

100% facts

We called Iowa, "University of not-quite-Illinois at Iowa City".

There were a lot of kids from my graduating class to who went to Iowa, Wisconsin and Indiana. Some of them genuinely wanted to go to those schools, but mostly it was a matter of not being accepted to UIUC. And, all of them are great college towns. Madison and Bloomington in particular are spectacular.

Illinois and Ohio State are on relatively even footing these days.  Similar admissions requirements and selectivity rates.  Both ranked in the top 15 among public universities.

I'd be surprised.  Can you name a few top programs at Ohio St off the top of your head?

My uncle was an MIT + Harvard guy. Always said he wished he went to Chicago. Then, a couple years after he passed, my cousin (who went to Duke for undergrad...nerd) left his job at GE Aerospace, and to my great surprise, had apparently listened to his dad, and got his MBA from Booth.

Excellent! This kid (well, now a man in his 40s) wrestled for me.  His dad said the thing that amazed him the most about his brilliant son was that he was a successful varsity athlete.  I haven't spoken to him in a number of years, but last time I heard he had been a professor at both MIT and Notre Dame.

Vincent Cornella I believe is much superior to Saunders. Saunders showed some good stuff this year with a major over Josh Edmond and some other good wins going 20-8 but Vince Cornella when healthy is too notch. Not only is he a junior bronze medalist but he bonused his way through EIWAs as a freshman. He last in tie breaker to Lachlan at ncaas who took 3rd . Then on back side he was destroying Swiderski 8-0 with 5 minutes of riding time before getting cement mixed and stuck with seconds left. His sophomore year he tore an acl during the Edmond match and still won.  He couldn’t make it through Confernces though and was out all this past season:  Talking about a guy who best Koderhandt 15-2 though. I like him to win the 141 spot.

As far as Greg D, he did beat Milani last year. It was close but I believe that was just out of familiarity. Greg is far superior. If he can stay healthy, and that’s a huge if,,he is a podium threat. Started out 9-0 last year before injuring his neck and being done for year.

Really good insight. Appreciate this.

Madison is a special college town/city.  Arguably the best in the Big Ten: good academically and absolutely legendary in terms of partying/atmosphere. It's a shame that their wrestling team doesn't have much to cheer about.

Iowa COULD be more fun like Madison or Champaign/Urbana but you'll get arrested for just walking down the street.  At least that's how it was back in the day.  What college kid wants to start their adult life with a rap sheet for doing normal college weekend activities?

I've lived in the Milwaukee area for my whole adult life, and it's hilarious how they literally have Marquette apparel with shamrocks on it, when their mascot is an eagle.  Really leaning hard into the stereotype that it's the second choice for affluent Chicagoland kids from Catholic schools.

As for UChicago and Northwestern...that's a little above my tax bracket in terms of brains and $$$.  My daughter is an exceptional student and looked at every school in Chicago (she wants to get out of Wisconsin and loves big cities), but settled on Loyola over NU/UC/DePaul/Columbia.

Is this the first pickup for tOSU?

Yes, I believe so.

Interesting one to make the first, considering they already have Cannon (who beat Chittum this season) at 157.

My guess would be they have a plan for redshirts and weights. It may have been what was holding up the official announcement???

Where does he slide in?

157 with Cannon going up or down?

149 or 165 if Cannon stays pat?

He has a redshirt if he wants to use it?

ohio st boards are saying cannon will likely be 65 and cody at 57. That leaves a hole to go to the portal at 49 or develop a kid there already.

I don't think he has posted since the announcement, hopefully he didn't have to cut internet to fund the deal.

There's been so much noise for this kid Who has topped out so far in college as "solid."

I see your point here, but I think even solid is pushing it. Just this season he had losses to: Jared Hill, Cobe Seibrecht, James Conway, and Charlie Millard. Maybe we define 'solid' differently, however. But we definitely agree he hasn't lived up to the hype.

talk about circumventing the rules / so none of them will enroll until 2nd semester and won't count towards the roster total

That's not how it works.  None of them will enroll at Cornell at any point next year.

well that's even worse, they decided to attend an ivy league institution of higher learning to continue their academic and athletic endeavors as student athletes

maybe need to take long look at what comes first

Once an athlete goes in the portal, does his current team have to keep the athlete on the roster if the athlete doesn’t sign with another university?

pretty sure may 2nd is just the last day that they can enter, but once entered they can stay in until they find a fit

I don't think it was worth the announcement unless he's cutting to 49...:classic_dry:

I cancelled my check.
