I would assume that these numbers that we are hearing for offers (300K, 500K, etc) are "packages" rather than a cashier's check or a duffle bag of cash.  These packages could include, but not limited to things like tuition, housing, meal plan, auto lease, spending stipend, and such things that would make the offer look more attractive.  I'm not saying it isn't huge amounts compared to the past, but I feel there is some exaggeration or manipulation of the numbers involved.

Not really. Bailey maybe, but I’m shocked Mizzou even entertained Williams with the off the mat stuff. I’d prefer to ensure we don’t lose Mendoza’s commitment by adding a Bailey.

This. I’d rather hope Roller and Rath play into 49 and 57 and solve that problem. Sinclair and Peyton at 84 and 97 (if and when Rocky leaves). Team looks fine, just not the greatest depth at the higher weights. Taking in two (I think) transfers that are already injury-proned to a team riddled with injury would be silly.

So you think someone with connections to Iowa’s program is intentionally sharing fake numbers?  If so, why? It’s not like they’re scaring people away from offering similar amounts so Iowa gets the guys, based on the Nagao situation we pretty much know Penn State guys are in all likelihood getting comparable amounts

wait, your entire premise is based on the assumption that mineo has connections at Iowa leaking info to him...

How much do you think Peterson and Williams are getting then?

I spoke with Bob. We both ski at Breckenridge and have become close. Here are the real numbers:

$69,000 base pay

Dual meet win, bonus point win, conference placement and nationals placement bonus incentive pay package for maximum total payment of $420,000

He’s at least got connections that have connections at Iowa.  And in regards to this off-season he does have connections at Rutgers that may have insight into the situation with Peterson, although I don’t believe he actually put out a number that he was supposedly offered.

Also, I’ve said this before but I didn’t believe the $500k numbers at first last year either.  But then Willie repeated it which to me gave it more credibility.

In today’s economy, that ain’t much…

In all seriousness, of those things you listed (housing, meals, tuition, etc.), what portion of that can be covered by the school via scholarship? I’d imagine Nasir Bailey gets tuition + ??? anywhere he wants to go, so would think things that scholarship money can’t cover are what’s being packaged up. I also wonder if some of the donor cash is tied to incentives similar to the NFL (Rush for 1,000 yards, get an extra $2mm…Win B10’s and get an extra $50k).

Incentives for NIL are illegal.

They're supposed to be, but it's pretty much what the collectives do now. I'm also skeptical that a significant % of athletes actually do their part of NIL deals. Not talking individual NIL sponsorships, but the collective deals.

On the other hand, if poaching is a problem and programs want athletes to stay for more than a year, I don't see why collectives don't structure deals accordingly. Offer a bigger amount, but pay a % upfront with the rest payable at some future date upon fulfillment of the athlete's obligation... which may be scheduled to occur just before the start of the following school year, or in a specific location (like the city that the college is in), or whatever.

Drama unfolding with Kyle Bratke calling out Iowa directly on twitter for allegedly trying to poach Watters, Iowa posters on HR saying that Watters' family reached out to families of current Iowa wrestlers first, and @Husker_Du saying he has heard that many schools reached out to Watters last year but hasn't heard iowa.

He goes after Willie shortly thereafter for "starting drama" for SLIGHTLY disputing it, although Willie didn't actually dispute, just said he hasn't heard of anything this year.

The out of state tuition is likely over $50,000 a year.  Food, rent, book, laptops, etc. aren't included in the tuition.  Four years of this nonsense and you're looking closer to $300,000 total.

Lehigh could be a possible destination for David Evans of PSU

Evans is another Claw type kid. Consummate team player.

I really hope he’s able to put together a great season next year if he leaves.

He only placed once in PA in high school which was 4th place in AA his senior year.  But his college results demonstrate a much higher level of wrestling.  His only losses in his career have been against:
Beau Bartlett in sudden victory
Vince Cornella in sudden victory (he split with Cornella overall 1-1)
Tyler Kasak x2 (4-2 and 3-2 in second round of tiebreakers)
Malyke Hines 6-4
Michael Cetta 8-7
Josh Koderhandt 10-1 (he split with Koderhandt overall 1-1)
Connor Brown 10-3

He has wins over
Koderhandt (as mentioned above)
Cornella (as mentioned above)
CJ Composto (4-1 in SV)
Braden Basile (12-5)
Kelvin Griffin (4-2)
Jordan Titus (6-3)
Dom LaJoie (Fall 4:32)
Sidney Flores (12-8)
Jordan Hamdan (12-6)
