Except they are from Texas.

Texas is a lot tackier than NJ!

Which one, Wildwood Texas, or Wildwood NJ?

I just felt compelled to comment to all the guys saying Angelo Ferrari is a "national championship contender this year". Technically anybody who makes it to the NCAA tournament is a "national championship contender". But I'll winnow it down to those guys who use that phrase to declare a guy an imminent threat to win an NCAA title. I don't think Angelo fits that mold.

1. He was pushed around and couldn't score an offensive point against the #1 guy.

2. He went into SV1 to defeat Plott, who has never come close to beating Keckeisen (and who has been majored by Keck in most of their matches).  I think Keck would decisively beat Ferrari.

The way I see it Angelo is, at best, a #3 guy this year at NCAAs. Still pretty great for a Freshman, but people are getting a little too amped.

Both those paragraphs are right on point.

Plus he got ridden out, never a good sign for NCAAs.

He's a notable talent.  Maybe in a different weight class he could have a realistic chance, but not here, not this year.

And something else that I don't think has been pointed out -- how much sense does it make to spend a year of eligibility of a guy with his ceiling to throw him into the fire of Big Tens and NCAAs with only five matches of college experience.  Would be a disservice to the wrestler.  They knew how good he was the whole year, I can't imagine they ever thought Arnold was better at that weight.  Therefore I doubt they ever considered having him go in March; if that was a serious possibility, he should have wrestled more college matches to get ready.  For no other reason than to get more experience on bottom in match situations.

Maybe at the beginning of the season Arnold was better than Ferrari. Maybe he still is (but I doubt it).

Too bad Brands refuses to wrestle UNI, or else maybe we could’ve seen him against Keckeisen

Yeah, that's some real BS right there. Is Tom actually afraid of UNI??

He wrestles Oklahoma State and Iowa State every year.  He's not afraid.  He's, IMO, being petty about Schwab leaving, and sees wrestling Iowa as giving benefits to most programs, and doesn't want to give shine to YNI, again because the petty.

UNI would lose definitively to Iowa this year. Don’t think it would go much better in other years either.

I have no doubt of that. Iowa is clearly the 2nd best team this year. I think it's a shame they don't wrestle UNI though, UNI has some good wrestlers and would give the Hawkeyes a hard fought match.  I think it'd be a good experience for wrestlers on both teams.

I have mixed feelings on the issue.  There is a lot of pressure (from media and fans) on Iowa and their role in college wrestling when they already take on arguably two of the biggest out of conference duals with Oklahoma State and Iowa State (as you mentioned). Obviously UNI and Iowa would be good for the sport, especially considering the in-state rivalry, but it's not Iowa's job to wrestle every top program in the country. PSU wrestles essentially nobody outside of the conference schedule and they don't receive nearly the criticism of Iowa.. Cael just gets credit for creating a schedule that helps his athletes peak for March.

Not to mention the fact that Iowa always wrestled out of conference teams like Oregon State at Corvallis and Bellarmine at Louisville. Last year they went to Riverside and wrestled Cal Baptist and went to Philly and wrestled Penn. 2 years ago they went to West Point and wrestled Army and went to Chattanooga. Iowa does as good of a job as anyone at growing the sport.

They also used to wrestle maybe one team a year from a lower division to help grow the sport, before the NCAA disincentivized doing so.

When SDSU was starting to improve Iowa came to Brookings, SD and (at that time at least) it was the largest crowd in program history. Over 4000 people there.

I was rewatching this dual again today (as I may do many times until B1Gs), and have we talked about Teemer getting robbed out of backpoints on his second TD?  That was a Peterson and the ref is trying to count neutral danger.  Should have been a 7 point move for Teemer.

There was a little hubub about it live but then, curiously, the conversation quickly changed to "that was a close match", "Teemer is vulnerable", and "he's in danger of not making it past round 2 of... B1G'S"

Have been to Wildwood a few times myself.  A good day is boating from North Wildwood up through the channels behind Stone Harbor for fluke.  Then boating down to Champaign Island for some R&R.  Head back, dock the boat, clean up, and then head to Urie's.  The food they're is slightly above average but it's hard to beat sitting on that deck with some live music and cold beverages
