He definitely does not have the strength or body to wrestle HWY.

Totally surprised his gas tank looked empty at the end of first.

Will he finally commit to football??

In the interest of fairness, if tOSU had a performance like that from a blue chip with experience, i would be holding the whole staff respsonsible... @MPhillips

I wonder if a kid who was the best at everything he did in high school is having a hard time coping with not being the best and its why he took the year off of football and maybe is having issues developing his wrestling.

I'm not sure what about Kueter merits that diagnosis...

yeah but your characterization makes him sound like a spoiled child. These guys were all studs I don't know why he gets labeled as not "coping with not being the best".

I don't know him I'm not trying to attack his character. I would think when you are as gifted at he is to where he's been able to do a sport in season and be better than 99% of people that are probably dedicating their entire life to that singular sport, It may be hard mentally to adapt to now allocating more time than you ever have to a single sport and having less success (relative to the level he is at) than he had previously allocating far less time to it. I could be extremely off base it just seems like the ability he has despite maybe being a little undersized is not meeting expectations.

The most major culprit is likely that his first year he wasn't training full time in the sport, and those early years are where guys make the biggest jump in college.  I disagree about his tank, though.  He lost 3-1 without giving up a TD and was on Luffman's legs multiple times in the 3rd period, just couldn't finish, which i think goes back to my original point.  I will say Luffman also beat Cohlton Schultz this year so he may have made some nice improvements himself.

On the whole we tend to draw too many wide conclusions from small sample sizes,  and expect consistent performance from young athletes; let's see where he's at in March.

Essentially he’s had what, one bad match?  I wouldn’t be too worried yet.

And didn’t he wrestle 125kg at Junior Worlds?  If there’s an issue, I don’t think it’s size

And his one "bad match" was a close loss to a solid opponent that has a win over a former NCAA finalist on his resume this year.... and he was in on the legs close to securing the go ahead takedown multiple times in the third period.

Keiter is a tweener big time.  He would be a rail at 197, and bulking up might legitimately not be in his genetics unless he gets on some tren-balogna sandwiches.

Maybe he had a tough match, I don’t see him having the speed or strength to enforce his technique enough to AA.   That said, the brand’s definitely know how to manage hometown spectacle as much as athlete development.

They could get a better heavy easily, Iowa heavies rarely do better than round of 12, but keuter has major hometown/homestate support, he brings in the fans and the brands definitely like that.

I agree. I said it in the dual thread, but he needs to watch some old Snyder film to clean up his finishes on guys bigger than him. On a couple of those shots at the end, he went to finish in a way that allowed Luffman to put his weight on top of him (granted he still nearly finished by lifting Luffman when I thought there was no way). He's a freshman learning to adapt his wrestling style to 285.

You had me with the Trenbolone but lost me with this guffaw. Do you recall that the last 3 heavyweights have been Cass, Stoll, and Telford and that, minus accidental gunshots and gambling suspensions, that bunch all american'd every single year they competed?

Keuter is wasting his time with wrestling.  So far it seems like he may be a low AA level wrestler, but even if he were a true title contender (capable of beating Gable, Kerk, Pindrickson, et al) it makes zero sense for him to focus on wrestling when he could be a mid-round NFL draft pick.

I've read he's a very talented football player and could end up playing linebacker or DL in the NFL.  If he gets drafted to the NFL (which he seems to have the talent to do) he would make 100x the money he would make if he continues to pursue wrestling.  I get he may like wrestling more, but it makes no financial sense not to pursue football instead.

Such a gaff on my part, sorry tony, I completely forgot about him and his complete ownership of the 3rd place spot on the podium.

C'mon, let's not move the goal posts. You said Iowa heavies rarely finish above the blood round when that has been the exact opposite of what has happened in 12 out of the last 15 years. If you had said Iowa heavies rarely place higher than 4th I would have chuckled at the trenbolone joke and moved on.

My opinion is that Keuter has been told to wrestle. There is no way that Ferentz gives him a year away from the team if he thinks he is in their plans at football. Again, just my opinion as somebody who has been around Big Time College Football.

As to his wrestling I would be surprised if he is not an AA this year. He seems plenty big to be at 285 with the way the class has been trending.

True Freshman rarely play at Iowa.
