Yeah...I don't think anyone would have any trouble if they were JUST trying to eat 6,000 calories a day.

I remember Hilger was Wrestling at...~215 or so and went on a ~12,000 calorie a day diet...but it was JUST to gain weight. He added ~40 pounds, but I don't know how much of it was good weight.

Also, Keuter is still going back to Football, right? I thought the plan was for him to commit this year to Wrestling and then...he'd be back on the FB team next year. So either way, he's gotta get up to ~240-250. I don't even recall what he plays(I thought he was an Edge/DE/LB) but IF his eventual goal is to make a career out of playing FB, he's gonna have to pack that weight on.

I also remember a TV show, it's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Really funny show, but one of the guys on the show gets really fat on year because he noticed that on most shows that are successful, everyone gets better looking as they get private chefs and stuff like that. So he wanted to go the other way. He said it was miserable. But again, he was doing things like leaving out a quarter or two of ice cream in the morning and then drinking it later in the day. Just getting fat.

A vegan adding 6000 calories? The toughest part would be preparing all the meals. Then it'd be just like the OP said, walking around and not feeling like you've got a growth in your stomach.

I'm not in the loop with Keuter's situation by any means, but remember someone mentioning that he saw the writing on the wall and was likely not going back to football. Good for him if he can pack it on and will get to see some time on the field, though it would be wrestling's loss.

Vegan 6k calories in 2024 seems doable. There are in insane amount of meat alternatives out there, many which have more protein than their meat analogues. But I get what you're saying in terms of satiation.

This is a very important question. I need you to think carefully before you answer. Our entire internet message board friendship is riding on your reply.

Creamy or chunky?

Bizarrely I like both and rotate between them.  I'm currently on a creamy stretch 🙂

Correct answer, both have their place.

Why would he do a vegan 6000k diet? Eat meat, get strong.

Some people are opposed to it for moral reasons. Not me...something needs to die every day for me to live, but...I get it.

Plus, it's so much easier if you have someone helping you or making these shakes. I'd also venture a guess that he's getting plenty of protein in his vegan diet.

Namely, as long as I don't have to hear CONSTANTLY about how you're Vegan...who cares. Didn't Tom Brady live off a vegan diet? Not that he was ever renowned for his athleticism, but he was still a great QB until age 46....

Though rare, there are people who simply perform better on these diets.  Really comes down to the individuality of the gut biome.

I personally despise a vegetarian/vegan diet.  Makes me feel like trash.

One of the biggest dudes I've ever met said eating vegetarian helped him sleep better...

We pretend we know why this diet stuff works, but we really don't.  Commercial science just makes aggressive claims for commercial purposes.

Haha yes that’s true about not having to hear about it! I have heard many instances of people going vegan and getting weaker. Can Newton went vegan and went from the Super Bowl to out of the league. Ryder Downey quit being vegan and went from an average backup to the 5 seed at NCAA’s.

You can clear 6,000 calories with a couple of Costco pizzas. Simple.

Costco 🤮 my go to on 100 mi bike ride was at 75 mi slice of Casey pizza and mix Coke & Gaterade, ride ~3k calorie event.   Couple friends I cycled with did RAAM.  When they did two man did 12 hour shifts, that's 8k to 12k calories.  The lower cal guy rode day shift higher night.  Midway across KS lighter guy was having trouble getting food down they shifted to 10 & 14 hr shifts tell he could get calorie intake back up.

I do not know what most of that means, but if any of it means you eat Casey's Pizza, I will keep you in my prayers.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

LOL...eh, I think that's probably mostly a coincidence. Cam Newton went from Super Bowl to out of the league like every player does. After he got the ever-loving crap beat out of him and several years later. He had that car accident and he also took more of a beating than any QB in the modern game(and then struggled to pick up other offenses). And he was still in the league 7 more years after the SB season. Even had another really good season a couple years later.

I don't have any idea about Ryder Downey however.

I still have to believe if you have a chef or someone preparing your meals, you've GOT to be able to get enough protein without meat...right?

From a strictly dietary standpoint I’m sure you can get enough protein. Not all protein is created equal though. Meat is the ultimate source for building and maintaining muscle.

Wait Ben Kueter is really vegan?

Where does this come from?  A poster posted a sample 6000 calorie diet that was vegan.  It wasn't directly attributed to Kueter.  It seems like a strange choice to post as a potential diet.  I would imagine approximately 100% of NFL linemen are omnivores.

Also, it is highly unlikely the Iowa heavyweight is an omnivore because he isn't posting about being vegan a minimum of once a week on social media.

An omnivore eats plants AND meat...:classic_blush:

"omnivore" literally means, "to eat everything."

I screwed up my own edit! Meant to say "highly likely he is an omnivore."

Thanks for noticing!

RAAM is a serious ride. Takes a level of self determination that most people will never be able to muster. Kudos to anyone who even attempts to qualify for that race, much less finishes or places.

I'm pretty meticulous with my nutrition on my long rides, but couldn't imagine actually executing a nutrition plan on something as mentally and physically exhausting as RAAM.

Some interesting research and application of fueling tricking down from WorldTour bros to the more common-ish man: huge carb loads via liquid ingestion. Some of these guys, and even 50-60kg women, and downing 120g/hr.

I carry pre-measured bags of drink mix, and refill bottles accordingly. I’m up to 90g/hr these days and rarely if ever bonk. For whatever reason no one thought of this stuff 15-20 years ago. I can’t recover like I used to but I can do *single* hard rides that rival what I did when I was doing NRC races back in the day.

you know how you tell if someone is a vegan? don't worry, they will tell you.

There was a weird amount of discussion regarding the vegan diet, probably due to the clearly ChatGPT-generated troll diet that somebody posted. If Keuter was for some stupid reason eating an all-vegan diet, he's better off throwing in some good ole meat and getting beefy with the big boys instead of struggling to keep weight on.

Also - is Keuter still planning to play football?
