There is a potential joke here about Slumlord Bob taking Teemer out back to "collect"

He’s going to have to evict a lot more single moms to find a 2nd semester 157 if Teemer isn’t expect back.

This could be the new NIL scam. Guy doesn't actually want to make the big sacrifices any longer, but since they throw so much money at him he decides, "WTF, might as well take it". Then he limps off the mat to count the bag money only to never really step back on.

Not saying that i s what happened here in this case or any other case, but portal slum lords caveat emptor.

Dresser appears to be poking at Iowa for all the transfers:

“I mean, in the seven years that I've been at Iowa State now, that's the best Iowa team that we face, by far. You know, so credit to Coach Brands and the donor base. I mean, that's the world we live in. So let's just say it, right, congratulations to all of the people involved in the program because they have put together a heck of a team right there. I mean, you look at some of the guys on that team that are kind of newcomers, those dudes can wrestle”

Iowa certainly had a ton of transfers in the lineup: Parco,Teemer, and Buchanan from this year; Caliendo from last years squad.  It isn't like Iowa State doesn't play the game too: Echemendia, Bockman (his 3rd school), Riggins, and Carroll are all transfers for ISU that wrestled this year.  Then you have Chittum and the Cuban connection... all of whom enrolled in ISU after "non-traditional recruiting."  Sound like sour grapes + hypocrisy from Dresser because he can't work the transfer portal as well as the Brands brothers. (or is ir sour oranges?)

Also notably from past years: Franek, Eireman, Desanto, Teske and Woods.  Currently Voinovich, Cruz and Harris (from community college).

I’m still surprised there isn’t more discussion about Ferrari/Arnold.  I’m still assuming Ferrari redshirts, but using in the ISU match with the match on the line (and depriving Arnold of an opportunity for a ranked win) is a pretty big statement IMO.  Does that mean Ferrari is beating Arnold?

IMO, it's not a about winning the dual, it's about locking down the loyalty of your blue-chips and giving the fans what they want, while not jeopardizing the dual's outcome.

I don't see any different than them sticking Arnold in the same dual last year.  It's a recognition that the fans love to see the new big-time recruits, and that in today's poaching world, you'd better built some team loyalty among your big-time true freshman to guard against a rival dangling an enticing NIL deal in front of them.  The 5-free-competitions rule (which I love) makes this all possible.  I don't think it says Ferrari's beating Arnold in the room, only that he's sufficiently within reaching distance that it a meaningful drop-off either way, and therefore is not likely to be the determinative factor in the dual's result.

You have to respect that Dresser calls it as it is.  He was right to call Brands an "orange" a few years back, just as he's right to make this observation, and giving the "donor base" equal billing to Brands.  You can call it sour grapes, but I don't think Dresser is denying he'd do it too if he had those sorts of moneyed backers. You can call it passive-aggressive, but the reality is that Iowa didn't out-recruit or out-coach ISU:  they outspent them.  Dresser didn't take it that far, but he's right to add a shout-out to the donors who did, in fact, make this win possible.

He was very spot on aside from the best team comment. I think the 2020 or 2021 squad beats this squad pretty easily.

I get the “wanting to see the new recruit” angle, but Arnold hasn’t had a lot of matches, people probably want to see him too.  I also don’t think it’s comparable to last year because Arnold was clearly better than Riggins or whoever else they would have put at 184.

Wasn't Abe Assad the last guy that Brands called a cool cat or maybe it was cool dude.  Could be the kiss of death.

Could possibly be that Gabe has already begun the descent down to 174 and is challenging for that spot.

What should they call him (dresser) for inventing that sleezy tournament to get his guys some tomato can matches to get the necessary match count for end of year seeding?

Where they already have 2 guys that can AA and when Arnold supposedly spent the offseason bulking up?

I still think they should have used Arnold last year and he potentially could’ve redshirted this year

He was 100% outcoached, though not as thoroughly as last year where Dresser et al. just forgot what riding time was.

157 is a huge mystery for the time being.

I sadly think that Iowa will have a similar thing happen with Brands at 174 as Okie State had with Smith's son a few years back.  May not be the best guy to put out there, but nepotism be damned.

Arnold at 184.

Imagine how hard that'd be though?

Nelson Brands has taken a 5th...so it's not like there are many guys who are just so clearly better than him. Then it seems like just about every Father thinks their son is juust a bit better than he really is and it's pretty easy to justify.

Imagine being outcoached by Tom and Terry.

That’s wild.

If by "outcoached" you're including the coaching done by prior coaches of Iowa's expensive free agent transfers, then I can probably agree with you.

If it's homegrown v homegrown, I have it 15-11 ISU from the last dual, so I'll give the edge to Dresser over Brands in coaching.

If it's donors v. donors, I'll agree it's Iowa in a landslide.

You're just trying to be difficult now.  Watch this, I've arbitrarily decided that Iowa State shouldn't get any points for 157, since it was an injury default where Teemwr was leading before the injury.  Aww, man, tough break for the Clones, now they lost 11-9 in the arbitrary dual, too!

They got outcoached on the mat, and they got outcoached in the portal race (because Iowa State is getting their asses kicked there, this should automatically be discounted, I know, but for right now, let's pretend it's a big part of college wrestling and thus part of the coach's success, just like high school recruitment.)

I dunno, I thought ISU was doing pretty good with making their case to guys after they enter the portal, like Bockman, Carroll, Echemendia. But they're totally getting outclassed by Iowa in the pre-portal poaching of other schools' multi-time AAs, enlisting donors to use massive NIL bribes to lure away rivals' top guys who weren't planning to transfer.  I think Dresser knows he needs to step it up on that front, and I think we can all agree that Iowa/Brands really leads the way on that.
