Dan Gable to Iowa.

Cael Sanderson to Penn State.

David Taylor to Oklahoma State.

Any others in the running as the biggest betrayal to the University they wrestled for?

I know, Taylor is a bit of a stretch but he is so linked to Penn State from College to International Titles I included him.

Might have had Brands in here but they ended up back in Iowa.

Iowa State staff made up of Hawkeyew. But who cares, right?

If you want to coach, then your potential coaching career will have passed by if you wait to take over where you graduated.

It’s gotta be Gable going from ISU to Iowa. Face of the program and of wrestling at large at that time going to the in state rival.

Not really a rival, though?  I don't think Iowa was very good.

Has to be the man they used to call "Bail Sanderson" going to PSU after his mentor was pushed out of the ISU job.

I understand why he did it, and it has worked out.... but he went from the top job at a historically significant program to come to PSU.  None of these other guys left head coaching positions that were gifted to them.

I agree. This is the dumbest topic. This is a betrayal to common sense.

As I recall, ISU didn't have a spot for Gable, so no betrayal. Same with Brands - got passed over for the HC spot for Zalesky.

Cael was a different story - pushed out Bobby Douglas, left for better recruiting grounds and cash, and took his ISU recruits with him. That's a true dagger in the back. Cael is better than everyone else at everything and that includes betrayal.

Another way to look at is that ISU's biggest lesson to Cael was the importance of beating Iowa.  When he realized ISU couldn't draw the recruits needed to do the job, like a good alumnus he dutifully went somewhere where he could do the job.  And presto!  Now the good folks in Ames don't need to hear all that pompous boasting from across the state in Iowa City, since one of their alumni ate their lunch.  Maybe they should thank Cael, as any defeat of Iowa is, on some level, a win for ISU.

Not a headliner but Cory Cooperman put a dagger in Greg Strobel and Lehigh when he went to Cornell and stole Mike Grey as part of a package "coach/wrestler" deal.  Cooperman will always have to live with that betrayal.

I was going to say J Robinson from Iowa to Minnesota.

What about J going from Okie State to Iowa?

Not coaching, but tOSU fans were pretty shook when Snyderman left to go train at NLWC. Think Kerk commits there if Snyder stays.

Kerk was actually enrolled at Ohio State, then hit the portal.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.
