Derek White was the "Cowboy Bulk Job" in going from 197 to 250.

If Coleman ends up NOT getting the HC job at Ok State...I will deem his inducement to leave a primo HC job at UNC to leave for Ok State the "Cowboy Screw Job".  I would honestly feel bad very bad for Coleman, he's also a PA boy like me.

I very much anticipate this happening.  And really, the administration has already soured their relationship with him, and continue to do so with each passing day that they don’t name him head coach.  Schools and admin teams know when they have their guy, bc they pull the trigger.

This really is an all or nothing deal, bc if they don’t get taylor, now coleman undoubtedly has to have some feelings about this, may even be putting out feelers, because taylor may have designs on who he wants in that position as well.

Oh the irony if CS is the USAWrestling freestyle development coach a year from now.

Someone will take him onboard no problem.  He’s a big enough name for a tier 1B team, and he did some serious development at UNC.  Someone will be interested.  Maybe he can be the next head coach at stanford.

The move is starting to look worse and worse for him though.

He might be the Casey Cunningham of Ok State and be just fine in that role.  He might be happy to leave the CEO stuff to Taylor or another new HC and dig in on the in-room coaching.   Probably enough funding to have a deeper leadership structure in place than the old school model of one in-room coach expected to manage and lead all of the team and program building work.

Even if Coleman got an AHC job he would likely be gone as soon as a solid head coaching job opened up. He'll be the first name that pops up on any job opening until he gets with another top tier program.

The thing you have to wonder about is how are the wrestlers taking this? You think the staff is going to have minimal changes, then they pull this on you and you aren't sure who will be coming back.

There is the Casey C exception to this assumption.

I am not sure short term wrestler uncertainty during a hiring process is a reason for a program like this to rush.    NIL $$ may reduce such concerns as well.

So Coleman Scott, who has HC experience becomes digs into the in-room coaching, and 4x World Champ David Taylor , with no head coaching experience, is left with the CEO stuff? This seems very opposite.

I am pretty certain that CS would've had discussion with JS and the AD about the different options of how this could play out.  And I'm pretty certain the pastry boy has no clue.  Did John know ADB would beat DT and thus decided to retire?  Doubt it but ...

This seems like a different tune than you were singing about it being a done deal for Coleman to be the HC and that this had all been hashed out for awhile…

I personally would believe that Coleman knew it wasn’t a done deal all along, but took the risk knowing that it would at least give him a leg up.   But even in that scenario it doesn’t mean he will definitely stick around for awhile if he doesn’t get it.  I assume he would at least stay for next year though.

Don't believe I said it was a done deal (but mightve forgot) but that there are procedures a public university must follow so we shouldn't expect a quick announcement.

No it doesn't.

His tune (and mine) all along was/is that it's CS's job and there are procedures and processes that must happen before a university can hire/name a FT coach/employee...

But considering how often you've push-backed,  It's appears that you're excited and looking forward to that, 'gotcha' moment of us being wrong...:classic_dry:

I don’t particularly care about you being wrong, but I’ll admit I do like to be right.

My original comment was simply saying that the fact that Scott hadn’t been named yet meant it probably wasn’t a done deal for him to be the coach.  The fact that they’ve gone after both Cunningham and Taylor already proves that correct, even if Scott ultimately gets the job.

In any situation... if David Taylor decides he wants to throw his hat in the ring, you do it.  If Scott can't take that and lets his feelings get hurt, then he isn't the right guy for the job - regardless of whatever assurances were made.

Recruiting alone has the potential to dent PSU's grip on the top.  No other hire that could be made at the D1 level could do that.

Isn't it going to be a screw job even if Scott ends up being the coach? Like, "we wanted this other guy, but since your still available . . ."

Yup.  Although OSU apparently also going after Cunningham kinda makes the “well who could have predicted Taylor would lose to Brooks” argument moot.

There are two to three people that you try to get an interview with, no matter what.  Cunningham is one of them.  DT and JB are likely the other two.

Even if you intend to hire Coleman Scott you attempt to interview people like Casey Cunningham, David Taylor, and Jordan Burroughs. This is common practice. It allows you to pick their brains and learn about their proposed methods. It is sometimes more a form of information gathering than an actual interview process.

Cunningham wouldn’t have near the success as DT or Jb. PSU athletes and fans can give him all the credit in the world, and I’m sure he’s great at his job, but he’s not the reason recruits are going to PSU.

Yeah, if Coleman doesn't get Ok State he can't exactly go back to UNC now either.  Where can he really go?

Cael and DT aren't nearly as successful without Cunningham and all the top recruits know that.

Cael was off to a good start at ISU in his first 2 years before Cunningham joined the staff.
