And so the cycle starts again.

1. Steveson is going to try to do X instead of wrestling.

2. People will come here and post about how it's probably a worse idea than winning world/olympic gold medals at the sport he's incredible at doing.

3. Other posters will complain and say how dare you question his dream to do X and compare him to whatever the equivalent is to The Rock and Aaron Donald in X.

4. Inevitably doing X won't work out.

Repeat.

I don’t think anyone was really expecting  him to make the roster.  If he doesn’t make a practice squad then your point could be true.

I am sure Gable has a pretty nice bank account right now. For the record, he will make somewhere between 12-20k per week on a practice squad depending. If he stayed on a practice squad for the entire season he would be in the 200k-300k range most likely. He would make a lot more than that in NIL by wrestling....but he would also have to give up on trying to make an NFL team. Stephen Neal started as a practice team player as well, but the next year he got his first start. If he decides he wants to give the NFL a legit shot, he will need to bulk up quite a bit and he will need to commit to 2-3 years of learning on a practice squad.

What are you talking about. They are the same. Neither is playing football.

Not surprised at all he got cut but any comparison to Aaron Donald is just not fair.

Ok, I guess then we will still be between steps 3 and 4 of the cycle if that happens. The preseason tape was not impressive at all, and there’s no chance he becomes an NFL DT, but their coach likes wrestling a lot so might do it.

I saw one pre-season game grade and he had the second lowest score of anyone on the field.

I’m not an NFL scout, but if he had “no chance to ever be an NFL DT,” he probably wouldn’t have lasted as long as he did.  For example last year Coon was cut about 2 weeks earlier in the preseason.

Hopefully future wrestlers still get a shot even if Gable doesn’t work out.  The fact that he never played football before made him even more of a longshot.  But I could see someone like Parris having more NFL potential as he was actually a good football player in high school.

10-12 K is the average. Still not bad, but doubtful a guy who's never played is gonna be on the high end of the scale.

The Bills coach is a huge supporter of wrestling/wrestlers. He has had JB speak to the team multiple times. They’re the only team that would potentially roster him on the practice squad. That’s not a criticism of Gable-it’s just the reality of the situation.

I see Basch claiming that they are planning to sign him to the practice squad.

For whatever reason it seems pretty clear that he doesn't want to wrestle be it freestyle or folk.  Good luck to him in his endeavors.

As to NIL, I know there is no way to prove how much guys get, but I just can't see these groups sending hundreds of thousands of dollars at wrestlers. You see reports that players are getting 100's of thousands or even millions but I just can't see it if it is coming from a school's NIL collective. If you sign with Nike maybe I get it but it is hard for me to believe that Mitchell Messenbrink or Ben Kueter is getting a ton of money from collectives.

Amen. Especially when you see the confirmed numbers thrown around for football. It would be hard for me to believe there is much NIL budget at collectives for wrestling.

Nope. There is zero shame in not making the practice squad.  He is undersized and has no football experience.  A lot of these practice squad players are there because they would be ready to fill in if there is an injury.

I have no idea what Gable should do and it’s totally weird that I thought about it, but what if he played college football? Is it too late for that?

He is too small for a major D1 program too. Low D1 or a D2 maybe. I think he would be a pretty good wrestler though. 255-260 would be a good fit just about anywhere. I hear he may be paid pretty good too.

Since we're spitballing, I think his next move should be to open up his own bakery. Bagel Steveson!
