Beginning of the season so wrestlestat isn't exactly accurate, but they pump out upsets on the regular based on their on rankings.  Below screenshot shows what we have so far before Sundays matches.  Thompson over Hall seems to be the most unexpected.  Latona has had a couple of odd early season tournament results in the past (e.g. Pat Phillips), so I don't worry too much about him.  Kaylor on the other hand seems to be on a bit of a slide since earning All American a couple years ago.

Navy over Illinois.

I know others would consider it an upset, but I think Illinois is and has been overrated for years.

I am surprised that we haven't seen the "This is the year of the Illini" posts.

You believed that Navy was going to beat Illinois...

When Byrd decided to use his RS, I thought Navy could pull that off.

Ramos won 5-0...

Good match. Kilkeary (trailing 2-0) had his leg up in the air in a tree top position for around 30 seconds at the end of the 3rd but didn't have the height to finish it, and Ramos scrambled behind for a closing seconds takedown.

"Pull that off" and upset seem similar. I'll chalk it up to semantics...

Poor choice of words on my part.

Both Brawlnagels and Lucas Byrd in the lineup, and you have quite a different result. Their absences accounted for three losses. Two of those three were bonus: Pin and Tech.

Additionally, Navy is young but bona fide. This was my preview here. The guy who took Edmond Ruth into overtime was at Blair two years ago winning a couple of Beasts of the East and other tournaments.

The big news out of the dual was Kannon Webster making his Orange and Blue debut with a tech fall. He will redshirt this year, but, man, wait until he and Scoles and Moore and the others break into the lineup with the Brawlnagels and Byrd. Luffman will be back as well, and he's looking real good. Check it out:

You gotta rep the brand...as I was told anyway.  Looks like you are already sponsored by Michael Crichton. Might want to hold on to that one... start reppin that brand...you know sell the books, set up some displays at the NCAA.

Colton Camacho is pretty solid too. He’s not elite but he’s had some nice wins.

Ohio kids, T. Wilson, J. Blaze and E. Birden had wins as well.

What about Illinois has been overrated? The program was left in the dumpster and Hef ate everything in the cupboards on his way out. Poeta is doing yeoman’s work if can manage a top 10 B1G finish this year. Far cry from what used to be a little thing called “annual expectations.”
