Real or imagined, x has credibility issues they and they alone are responsible for addressing.   This is probably going to snowball: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/paris-mayor-quits-x-platform-calling-it-gigantic-global-sewer-2023-11-27/

My thought process...

Who is Anne Hidalgo and why does Anne not like free speech?

Is Anne being criticized?  Is she leftist?  Authoritarian?

  • Socialist party rep where middle-class citizens are unhappy and critical of her policies (taxes, cars, etc).

What is Anne's opinion?  Has she talked about free speech in the past?  Why is she leaving X?

  • General research on 'free speech' came up empty.  There is some hypocrisy about Charlie Hebdo concerning free speech.
  • Her tweet on leaving X gives context to her criticisms while giving zero acknowledgment of positive contributions.  She doesn't like negative speech.  https://twitter.com/Anne_Hidalgo/status/1729079532240384196

What about France, in general, concerning free speech?

  • France's government is more involved with regulating speech than America's, although both governments are getting closer to having a Ministry of Truth 😉.
  • France.  There is a fine line between challenging the status quo (politically incorrect, etc.) and breaking the law.

Why should I care that Anne has given up on Twitter?

  • I don't unless this decision somehow impacts my country folk or the continued local service for X.

What should I care if American leaders gave up on Twitter?

  • The leader has actively demonstrated they do not want direct communication with the public.
  • Depending on who it is, it is inconsequential.  I don't follow any mayors in any cities.
  • If Ron Paul was running for president and it was him, he would lose my vote for 2024.

And then it goes away.   Simple.   But if it is useful to most (or enough) people and commercially viable, it will stay in the marketplace of ideas.   Again, simple.   That's called Free Enterprise.   A product with no value disappears or never becomes a thing.

He’s trying to drive the price of Disney down as he prepares for a leveraged buyout.

Who will provide that leverage? The banks burned by lending him money to buy Twitter?

Haha. Of course they will. Memories are short in capital markets.

But how does dousing Twitter in gasoline and throwing a lit match at it make Disney cheaper?

Inside Disney’s dramatic downward spiral as Americans increasingly shun the Mouse House

That op/ed is about sexualized juvenile content on Disney streaming services. What does any of that have to do with Musk or advertising on Twitter? Are you suggesting Musk is responsible for putting sexualized juvenile content on Disney?

Disney OG fans are realizing that their nostalgic dreams don't match the woke wonders of the new guard... and OG is becoming a minority in the Magical Kingdom.

Musk tells his best customers to go ***duck** themselves in the presence of the CEO he just hired to increase his customer base and revenue.  Nice.   Is he giving up?

Three things I liked about Musk's recent video clips

  • Claims that he has achieved more to help the environment than anyone (and he may be right)
  • He admits he was wrong about how he worded a tweet (not many people admit when they are wrong)
  • He tells companies trying to censor speech to ***duck** off

Greenwald has more to say.

Agreed, most aren't inclined to admit they're wrong.  Unfortunately, he is wrong again.  His customers are not responsible for paying the distribution costs of hate speech.
