You heard of this thing the 4-point nearfall? Well this is going to blow that right out of the water, listen to this:

5 POINT NEARFALL

Think about it, you walk into a wrestling match, you see 4 point nearfall sitting there.  There's 5 point nearfall right beside it, which one you going to pick man?

And we guarantee just as good a match as the 4-point nearfall.

To throw things back out of balance, Wkn is working for approval of a 12 point mythical pinfall.

I think there should be a bonus if you secure a techfall, then pin your opponent. Encourage scoring. Reward dominance.

If you're wining by a decision or losing (with the nearfall added) after a pin, you get 6.

If you're winning by major (with the nearfall added) after a pin, you get 7.

If you're winning by tech (with the nearfall added) after a pin, you get 8.

Make forfeits/defaults worth 9 or 10. It's disgusting to see forfeits in Big10 wrestling.

What do you think of:

if you secure a pinfall with double boots in you get 24?

Everyone says it can't be done so ...

I'm in. Pretty sure I would've won duals myself in high school, if that were the rule... That was back before they called everything potentially dangerous, though.

Back when the red & green lines were included in the 10' foot circle and out of bounds was square, not circular?

hmmm.... how about we just give 10 for a fall.......... back in the day, before majors and tech's a fall was worth double a decision. Giving 10 for a fall would put a falls importance more in line with it's difficulty. IMO..... a fall is what EVERYONE should be working for.

again......back in the day, forfeits and defaults were worth the same, point wise, as a fall.

Well, that’s silly. Why should a pin later in the match after you’ve turned the opponent multiple times and failed to pin them for several minutes count for more than a first period fall.

I think dual scoring is pretty close to perfect already, but I do love the idea of penalizing forfeits in some way. Seems like that should be worth more points than a pinfall actually.

I’m not completely serious about “wanting” the scoring changed, but I could definitely see the upside. It’s more of a solution looking for a problem thing.

1.) The opponent that takes until later in the match to pin is probably better than the quick pin opponent, so it’s not really that far out to make it worth more.

B.) A fluke pin is worth 6. A dominant pin is worth 6. A dominant tech fall is worth 4 or 5. When’s the last time you’ve seen a fluke tech fall?

3.) With an added layer of gamesmanship/ match strategy, the best wrestlers would stay on the mat longer trying to put up more points… win-win for fans.

4.) Outside of the “it would lead to coaches making wrestlers compete injured” crowd, there aren’t too many people who’d be against making forfeits worth more. That’s bullshit anyhow, especially with being able to use wrestlers without burning their redshirts.

Back on the old forums I mentioned that I thought it would be nice to eliminate escape points in all cases except for when you start down at the beginning of a period.  Folkstyle, as I've always understood it, is supposed to be about "manhandling" your opponent - to me it never made sense that you'd get awarded for returning to neutral after you got taken down.

I also would agree that I've seen (and been a part of a few) fluke pins, but never a fluke tech-fall.  I'd be 100% on board with giving more match points to tech-falls than pin falls, I prefer the action that comes with tech falls to the often several minutes of riding spent trying to turn them over. To me, there's still a benefit to pinning your opponent -- you guarantee the victory.  You would have to watch out for the potential of someone throwing the match, taking the pin-fall loss rather than a tech-fall, so maybe after a pin-fall stoppage you give the victor discretion to continue the match -- or maybe a verbal call/response from the official to the controlling wrestler ( Official: "do you want the pin?", Wrestler: <shaking head> "No!")

As a guy who scored prolly 80% of his points in HS and college (D3) via Nearfall….. I actually love the idea of this. A damn 5 point nearfall would have made up for a handful of close losses I had in my day…

No More TechFalls.

You wrestle to pin no matter how long it takes. So you win 82-0, unless you pin you keep wrestling the whole time.

Bring back 9 minute matches.

That would be potentially dangerous. Feelings may be hurt.

No tech falls are worth four anymore. This rule was changed in 2015.

That's my bad on editing, not stupidity...  I had "dominant win is worth 4 or 5," before I wrote the fluke tech fall line, then went back and changed "win" to "tech fall". 🤦‍♂️
