Yeah, the last thing you said is why it's insane to me. Ono's first match against the best top wrestler in the country. Can't imagine anyone at PSU would think that is a good idea.

That makes more sense. The way you phrased it initially sounded like you thought it was simply a preposterous idea for a match-up. I'd assume you would be right alongside with the rest of us who would absolutely love to see it happen.

Not sure why you need to throw out the gullible thing; I shared what I had heard on a message board from a source that's known things and been right about stuff before - isn't that the point of a message board?

Man I'm sorry. That did sound harsh. I reacted to the idea of the match too quickly, not the part about them being approached(which is what you said). The match itself would be definitely get nixed by PSU staff, but it's the type of match Flo would want to put on at the All Star Classic.

All good - FWIW I agree w/ you; that's arguably the worst person for Ono to debut against given the top skills of Seidel but I sure as heck wish I could watch it.

I would think if you want to be the best, maybe this would be the match Ono would want.  Wtf is he afraid of?  Seidal?  I though the psu room was the best in the world?

If you actually read the conversation, the scuttlebutt is Ono agreed to it but the coaches nixed it.

I'm not a PSU fan and haven't been in that room in fair bit but whether you agree with it or not, the logic is fairly simple to follow . . . they don't want a guy who has never wrestled folk in his life to debut against one of the best top wrestlers in the country

Why wouldn't you want to face the best?  It could be a great learning experience,  win or lose.

Would it better to face him in the semis at ncaa's?  Kinda like Blaze?

Do we really think Carl will send any?  Seems like a huge ask.

I dunno, ask Cael.  I'm not the argument you want.  It's not my fight.

Carl won’t face lesser competition for tons of money in a sport where they lose $$$

when they claim the competition is far to easy for them to pretend to care

I am not arguing with anyone.  I just asking questions with no apparent logical answer.

When you're at the top there's only one way to go. The least losses on your record is the goal. The appearance of always winning is a perk(or maybe the goal).

There is a logical answer and it was shared; you happen to disagree w/ it and that's your opinion and totally fine

But there is a difference between something completely inexplicable and something one believes isn't the best path for success; refusing to acknowledge the thought process of something you disagree w/ and continuing to yell into the void doesn't adhere to conversation when all you are actually seeking is someone to agree with you or merely have an axe to grind

The logic is - they don't want someone new to folkstyle's first match to be against someone who excels at something specific to folkstyle.  That is a logical pathway of thought, you disagree and think the best path for success is to be challenged and tested; that is also a valid rationale.

Your grievances lie w/ PSU, your ability to move forward in the conversation will be limited if you continue to show you are incapable of understanding anything you disagree with.

I understand your point, but disagree with it fwiw.

I think it's in the middle; I understand not wanting it to be the debut match but I think this is a good example where how Penn St schedules would bite them.  Sure One would see strong B1G competition but hypothetically going to a dual tournament in say early/mid December where he could see other strong non-con wrestlers and get a feel for them might be beneficial

Hard to argue w/ Penn St's results though - clearly doing something right

@Jon_Kozak wondering if we will have any word on this event soon? It was Nov 1st last year so I assumed we would have a date and location and matches trickling out around this time.

What if they focused the event on JRs/SRs from different conferences that are highly ranked. We know PSU probably will not send anyone and we do not want to see some of the Big 10 matchups already, so what if it looked something like this....

125 - Marc-Anthony McGowan JR Princeton v. Vincent Robinson JR Nebraska

133 - Tyler Knox JR Stanford v Jacob Van Dee SR Nebraska

141 - Luke Stanich JR Lehigh v Evan Frost SR ISU

149 - Caleb Henson SR VT v Ryder Block JR Iowa

157 - Brandon Cannon JR tOSU v Ty Watters JR WVU

165 - Nicco Ruiz JR AZST v Joey Blaze SR Purdue

174 - Jaxon Smith SR tOSU v Danny Wask SR NAVY

184 - Max McEnelly JR Minnesota v Eddie Neitenbach JR Wyoming

197 - Stephen Little SR UALR v Branson John JR Maryland

285 - Konner Doucet SR OKST v Nick Feldman SR tOSU

Again, I focused on top 10 (everyone is top 7 or better), only used those who are listed as juniors/seniors on intermat, and tried to get out of conference matchups.

Go ahead and rip it apart, but I feel matchups like this can bring excitement to the event.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I would not block out a Saturday night to watch this event. A lot of these matchups would be moderately interesting in a natural dual format, but they don't really move the needle as must see matches. The most interesting match-up you listed is what.. Cannon vs Watters? That's essentially like a 5th/6th place match at NCAAs being arguably the most exciting bout of an "All-Star" card. They need true title contenders and elite opponents if this event is going to be worth having.

But what if the wrestling were replaced by a best 2 out of 3 (or 3 of 5) all out dodgeball event between Penn St and OSU (coach subs included), ESPN with the broadcast, JB & John Smith on the mic?
