I am 45 years old and as I get older I have realized that the world is run by bozos. So yeah, I 100% believe there are absolute bozos that are ADs or coaches that would give this guy a shot. It's bozos all the way down.

The new Purdue AD just publicly announced that he's a bozo yesterday when he said "We are here to win championships. If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana"

His goal is to shield Smitty from the paintbrush of stupidity that he's (fairly) placed on other coaches.

It's a hard line but as a society we must eradicate greco even if the expense is domestic assault of a pregnant individual

Its hard to have a conversation with someone who doesn't communicate in sentences.   First you were talking about when he was already enrolled and 19 years old.  Now you are talking about when he was a 16 or younger minor.  How would any know what a 15 or 16 year old minor did in NJ, wouldn't those records be protected/sealed?

The question is what is your end game?  We aren't talking about Greco, AJ was a folkstyle freestyle kid so why did you jump in here?

The original question here was did John have any reason to believe the #1 recruit in the country was a potential problem?  I don't think John would have had access to his 15/16 year old records.  I met the kid and dad.  AJ just seemed like a normal 18 year old kid the dad a different story.  Sometimes you are recruiting the dad and the dad may tell you something about the kid.  Think that was true here but betting John has also seen a lot of dad problems where the kid turned out fine.  Mocco was one with baggage but of a different type.

you are making up stuff to fit your narrative...

i said issues were known in HS...

i then said i heard some crazy stories after the family moved to OK...

the rest is you filling in blanks to get yourself all wound up...

yes, Uncle John had reason for pause...

do i personally think Uncle John looked past it thinking he could right the ship?

absolutely...

how did that work out?

quit letting your emotions get the better of you, little fella...

So prior to the battery charges, he had no other issues at OK State besides the accident that could have warranted being kicked off the team?

Those two were both Spring semester sophomore year.  I think it'd be hard to kick a kid off the team for just a traffic violation/accident but the combination of stuff ... yes there was other stuff.

Oh ok so J Smith should be on the bozo list then?

LBJ basically just said he heard things, and from what I can tell he's not going into specifics because he doesn't have first hand knowledge. If you think he made it up ignore it, seems to be under the heading of "fair enough".

That was probably the dumbest AD intro speech in the history of athletics.  The current count is Indiana 31 (24 official NCAA titles) to Purdue’s 3.

Bit is a side note, and slice of irony, Purdue won the school’s first ever national championship….in basketball,  in the same year Indiana won the school’s first ever national championship….in wrestling.

Idk ... he kicked him off the team for this stuff.  Who else has kicked a Fr NC off their team?  I don't know of anything he did Fr year (So yr for sure different story) except the flexing and fake head gear throws but it wouldn't surprise me if the team chemistry was bad.  I believe AJ was the demise of John.

Eh. Family loyalty was the demise of John. Hired his nephew who influenced the Cowboy style to more of a defensive slugfest, couple years later his son stopped making weight and he let him take the post season spot from our lord and savior Chandler Rogers, and then athlete injuries kept piling on so he started rolling out a lot of backups and transitioned more into a mentor role and was less able to get the best out of his recruits. You could see it in his interviews and in the way his athletes competed. No knock on the guy, but that period of time was a distinctly different Cowboy wrestling program.

Now back to AJ, the real star of the show here! lol

Freshman year AJ had an aura/mystique that people dug, before the title. He was kind of a hero on campus. A little swagger and bravado was getting more eyeballs on the program. Then obv sh** went down in a lot of ways and it got gross/weird/predatory/dangerous.

No idea what trouble AJ got in before college. Everything I've heard is AJ was trouble in Stilly, Anthony was trouble always. But who knows.

Good point on the nepotism ... AJ was the final straw.

Judging by the product they put of the mat, I can't disagree. But, real question: How, practically, did Perry "influence" the team? Like, were stall strategies consciously built into the training? Or, did this style slowly spread, unnoticed / unacknowledged until we got Fix? Just leached out from (sucked-out) Scott, Morrison (at times), (sucked-out) Oliver, Kindig, Parks, Perry, Heil, etc until smart wrestling morphed into cautious wrestling, then hesitance, and ultimately what looked like crushing self-dount?

A few thoughts, not all in reference to this post.

I don't like the "nepotism" talk cause I've never heard any evidence of it besides his family being really good at wrestling. Without evidence "nepotism" is the just the comment the dumbest cynic in the room is gonna rush to say.

I've seen Perry show technique a fair amount, and its really really lame and boring and the overall philosophy feels like "only takedown wins" which is how perry wrestled. I can buy into the idea that he made people boring.

Also not a fan of the "smith made people cut weight" stuff. It all went nuts because the PA shills who were trying to cover for the radically overrated Chance Marsteller(who obviously had other problems at the time, everyone is a supporter now obviously), and they decided smith had to take the fall. IDK howmany guys have to have dramatic success cutting a lot of weight to drown out the whines caused by the guys who couldn't handle it.

This comparison isn't gonna do me any favors, but Smith OSU obviously did a much better job at this than tOSU, who had to be forced by Davino to figure out they had a contenteder at 125...and I know the retort to that is obvious, its just not emblematic of the truth if i'm the one guessing.
