Simple. John Smith was that old "you kids get off my damn lawn" guy. He looked tired and short tempered. It was time to retire and it showed. He was great, but the job was wearing on him, hard. John came in with 6 world titles as an OSU wrestler. Taylor comes in with World Titles and is not an OSU wrestler. Maybe it was time to move on and Taylor seemed the best fit, with his history & coming from a winning program and the top College coach today. He obviously presented well to the search committee & bosses. Hope he works out.

Yep, come from a family of alcoholics. Buried too many who died from it. Travels & exposure to other cultures where it is normal - even if not for me - shows it can be done OK. They do have their alcoholics but aren't the US type/hardshell baptist mentality. After all, if you have a small glass of wine with grandma and parents with a meal it is normal and sneaking out to drink isn't such an attraction. So, moderation and exposure to it compared to total ban?

Reading where Taylor has OSU now as a "Dry Program". No booze allowed? European background friends are used to wine with meals. They grew up with it and see this as normal - not drinking alcoholic beverages as rebellion. Most I know are fine with it and don't have the "demon rum" attitude - which seems to be a US thing. Any actual statistics showing one approach is more successful than another?

David Taylor was never an option for Iowa. He is outside the family. They want someone steeped in Iowa culture, preferrably of the Gable stable. Iowa is not ready for a complete culture change. That is what they got with Gary Kurelemeier & Dan Gable & they will ride that horse into the ground and never, ever admit it is not winning.

Was very good when you would see Post Grads & World team members showing up to wrestle. A number of Coaches would enter as well & some ended up going up against some of their wrestlers. The open competition was good for the sport.

In a nod to Penn State & Cael - the favorite flavor in Utah is Green Jello. Cael probably grew up on it. Spice it up with a Ponegranite. Get the unbroken seeds from the Ponegranite and put them in Green Jello for a great dessert treat. Even better than pineapple in it. Green Jello just might be Cael's Secret!

Initial excitement and wrestlers who buy into what the coach is pushing are a good combination. Remains to be seen if they can maintain this through the tournaments.

In the US anyone can sue for most anything at any time. Doesn't mean they will win or that frivolous suits won't be tossed out - but an action can be filed.

Will only believe it when I see it. Past results are "hope & crash" after tough OSU teams failed time after time. Taylor may have them ready but Iowa will be peaking more for them than at NCAA's.

After the tourament Coach Taylor of OSU was interviewed. Why didn't his parents teache him "don't talk with food in your mouth"? Food or chewing something, it was an ugly sight. Two friends visiting and we saw it - the wife was sickened by it. Had to turn it off. If he has to eat or chew his cud someone tell him NOT DURING INTERVIEWS!
