A lot of College athletes are now being paid. Some Millions of $$$. Do the schools now have tax and financial advisors to help them avoid tax complications? If not, are the schools liable in some way when the kid goes broke? Do they now have to declare themselves Professional Athletes? With the money do they have to declare room & board, tuition paid and such as income? Looks like a whole new set of problems.

Oklahoma State, Iowa, Penn State. The big dogs with a few others maybe fitting in as they won a number of titles before Iowa found the formula. A few others in the mix but not dynasty teams. Good & occasionally great but not sustainable. Oklahoma and Iowa State are two of those. Good and won a number of titles but not like OSU, Iowa and now Penn State. OSU did it with different coaches through the decades. Iowa was Gable & a few runs after he retired. Penn State is the big dog now. When you are winning you attract wrestlers who want to be part of the magic. Wrestlers who want to compete at the highest levels. A number of them who want to wresle for "The Coach" - and it perpetuates itself, at least for a time. No matter the Coach and team no one gets all the top guys. The coaches of these teams somehow have kids who wrestle to their potential. who buy into the system and work for it - for some reason moreso than at other schools. This year Penn State underperformed and still set a scoring record - breaking the one they set last year. At one point Iowa under Dan Gable won nine titles in a row. What is it that has these schools so dominant for so long?

I think I remember it being five times. Either way it was shameful. Mainly because a racist coach wanted Gable in place of Bobby. So, he forced wrestle offs over and over and over again. May well have contributed to Bobby not placing higher - wrestling the young Gable was a meat grinder. The Dan Gable we remember from International competition was more seasoned and a real killer in 1972. Bobby wasn't beating him then. The Russians weren't either. The story of them scouring the land looking for anyone who could beat him are true.

He has lost a half step and isn't dominating top competition any longer. When it is time he will retire. Until then, more power to him. Keep going as long as he wants and can beat others to qualify. Do wish Cael & Co could get him to smooth out a touch and get at least two newer moves in the mix.

He is coasting. He didn't try Worlds after the Olympics because he knew he probably wouldn't do the miracle finish again. That was when he was in wrestling shape. Not as he is now. He can hang it up and fart around with the 'rassl'n clown show. He is done with the real thing.

Dan Gable may be slighted by many who are younger. Those of us who were there know the reality. The Russians were scared of Gable. The story of them scouring the land for someone, anyone - to beat him are true. He dominated. A grinder on the mat - he ground the competition into it with unrelenting arm bars that would numb the shoulder. He punished opponents. He had a major effect on his fellow wrestlers and many of them credit him for helping them improve. He had a short international career. Many on those days faced that reality. Hard to make a living as a competitor in the US. For sheer domination we have not seen anyone at that level since he retired.

Ono won't be at Penn State. The Orange Peril will have ICE pick him up and deport him - since the Prez is now an OSU fan after watching the Airman beat the big bad heavyweight. All the schools with immigrant/foreign wrestlers had better watch out. OSU is lucky Amine is not eligible this year or they might find themselves with him being deported during a lung time out in a match.
