A bunch of Freshmen win NCAA D1 titles. A bunch were All Americans - and some wrestled another Freshman in the Title match. Has there ever been a better year of D1 wrestling for the First year wrestlers?

Without Tom opening up to a few new ideas on training and actually developing guys in the room it won't make a difference. After getting wiped out in some duals I figured he would finally be open to some changes. Not really, just some more effort and 'same old, same old' with a hard push for Nationals. Then we have Warner as a new assistant. Good or poor choice? It could be good as he was a hard worker who might help instill a bit more of his observations to be used by wrestlers and help with a different view compared to The Terrible Two & their All World credentials. It can go either way - am hoping his work ethic is helped with picking up helpful training techniques from other top programs. We'll see. The imports and buying talent is here & in the open.(finally) Relying on it is not the same as pushing and developing further the already talented guys they have in the room. Hope Iowa does well - it is good for the Sport. It won't really happen unless the Coaches open up and incorporate a few newer ideas and actually push them.

First, you have to have a coaching staff capable of Building, not just pushing and prodding. Iowa does not have that. They push & prod & punish in the room and few of their wrestlers really show improvement year to year. They do show a lot of wearing down. Wrestle hard is fine, but not if you aren't wrestling smart. Getting few takedowns against top opponents shows the failings. Then they hit Crabtree Corners teachers college of Black Dealing & suddenly they get some takedowns. Then they hit the tournaments. Look good & then look tired. Then injured and quit. Unless Tom gets someone in the room who can work more individually and push kids to be the best version while adding to their arsenal we will see the same old stuff every year. Tough, but not 1st place tough - mainly due to mental roadblocks.

Bringing in money and "making money" are not the same thing. You bring in so much but overhead, salaries for workers, coaches, trainers and such eats at the sum. Upkeep of facilities as well as the cost for new eats at the sum. Wrestling costs more than the dollars coming in pay. True for most sports. Football at some Universities can actually show a profit after all costs are figured. Not all schools make back the actual cost to run a program. Basketball, the same if not worse. Sports programs are providing many students an opportunity to continue their sport while giving the school another venue for students, alumni & the public to attend. But actually "making money" from mot of the sports is not happening. Figure it as a cost toward running a school that provides opportunities for many beyond the classroom. Part of the Life Lessons ans opportunities a good school should provide as they work to turn out well rounded, educated graduates. Allowing for breaks for reasons that we know come up is only helping the athletes as well as the schools.

No. BYU won't bring back wrestling because it is a "girly-man" school. You are advocating cheating kids who have a religious belief and take two years for service. Worse, if we are drafting young men you lose a whole lot of candidates. If we see some come in from other Nations with firm military/government service commitments we are not playing fair with them. We all age and some live in nations where they can't go to college until they fulfill Government required service. The exceptions make sense. Only a small group will actually use them but if you don't allow it you are going to make a group of Attorneys rich when they challenge this in court. Then you have those few who have medical issues. A major surgery can have you out of competition as well as College for two full seasons. Why punish someone for that? Still limit them to a 5 year window of actual College competition but if not in school - why punish them? Olympic redshirts? Why not an exception - but with firm qualifications tied to performance and placement, maybe? Those who actually qualify are a very small group. Let them work for the spot on the team, knowing when they come back they are still limited to a fixed number of years on the college RESILITE.(in case Shane is reading this)

Taylor is giving the kids an Identity and making the school more attractive to wrestlers by doing more than just coaching in the room. Social media and videos bring more interest and can only help with recruiting. Hope his program makes the team race closer as they move forward. I don't see the same three wrestlers winning titles next season. One of them, but not all three. This even as a few more weights will be challenging to make the finals. Tom Ryan had a good thing with his videos on his recruiting class & it got positive publicity. Taylor is taking it to a higher level. Both trying to knock off Penn State but OSU appears to be closer to the goal.

Nope, your restricting our right to choose won't fly. Numbers tell the tale. No one team can have three squads of top talent at all weights because too many of the athletes want to compete, not ride the bench.

Iowa looked much better at Nationals than the rest of the season. Is it because they wrestled out of their minds, or has Tom & Co finally started pushing actual wrestling & offense rather than hold on & pray? If it is because he is loosening a bit and pushing for more action & coaching his guys to go for it - good for them. Question remains tho - will we see this type of attitude next season?
