  1. Keep riding time but call fairly stalling when the top guy is not actively working for a pin and the bottom guy is content tl lay there without trying for an escape or reversal. When that happens, award a point to the wrestler not called for stalling(after one or two warnings?) and put them on their feet. Push out for a point - as well as one for fleeing the mat. Will help if mats have the colored section next to the edge as the Olympic/freestyle mats have. On competition. A lot more international meets. Practice is fine but you hone the edge with competition. Send our wrestlers to a lot of international meets. USA Wrestling lobby hard to make tournaments Double Elimination. The "one and done" makes it difficult for some to justify the cost of traveling. Knowing theyk will have a minimum of two matches and actual placing past the guessing for ranking can only help. I much prefer folkstyle wrestling, but it needs a few tweaks.
  2. He did a very good job. I would still like John Smith with his insight & running commentary on technique - both tried and missed.
  3. The wrestling suffered from the cut down from ten weights. Three solid years of wrestling at a weight only to be forced to dump or get heavier for the Olympic Games is asinine. We saw health issues due to it for a number of competitors. Those in charge do not care about the athletes past "what can I get from showcasing them".
  4. Nope, didn't trash him. Yes, I was on him for quitting. Zain has not quit - he has chosen health. A big difference in his open announcement and Spencer hiding. "With support of his coaches and in consultation with medical staff, the decision was made for Retherford to withdraw from the tournament. Following the decision, Retherford expressed his gratitude to the Team USA fans, coaches, support staff and his family for the continued support and encouragement during this time." A big difference in how these were handled by the wrestlers as well as their Coached & the Medical staff.
  5. It is a medical decision. Leave it to the professionals, coaches and trainers.
  6. No, an artist and author and only too familiar with those who don't respect the intellectual rights of others.
  7. Every competitor has the same set of rules. She did not make weight, she is out.
  8. Read "someone they did not like" and look at Bobby Douglas - the only man who beat Dan Gable five times. Bobby won the spot but racist coaching forced many matches to try and put Gable in his spot.
  9. Know nothing - know this that you have put this site and yourself in danger of Copyright Infringement with the way you post the article. You are not posting short exerpts nor do any of yours qualify under "Fair Use" exemptions. Face it, copyright theft is a crime.
  10. Iowa might work but she would need an Ironclad guarantee that AJ will NOT be on campus for anything, ever.
  11. They are just immigrants from an earlier time. How many generations in a new land does it take before one is considered "Native"? Part of our Clan is Spanish Land Grant lineage - direct from original settlers in the late 1490's. Does that make some of us "Native"?
  12. Oklahoma State. Decades of excellence, not just a few seasons.
  13. Hope Gross does well in Bismarck. A nice place to live with summers that aren't too hot and winters with good snow & a lot of cold. Hunting, fishing and outdoor activities galore and a nice place to be.
  14. They are the rules. No one is cheating or gaming the system.
  15. Judas did what the mythical Jesus needed to have done. He did his job. Peter, on the other hand... failed.
  16. All that training and travel only to go one and done. Double Elimination makes sense for everyone.
  17. He is training at Penn State, Tijuana campus now.
  18. This - a guy who got beat up by his wife. After she beat him Phil Mickelson asked "what club did she use"?
  19. It is a Mormon thing.
  20. Is Morgan State the only Independant School? If so, can they crown themselves National Champions of Independant Schools?
  21. Don't think any of them will do it. Some years back the bet would have been Joe Heskett at Iowa State if one asked. He had won in HS over Cael Sanderson at the time. We know how that one ended. Both excellent, one a 4 timer and 159-0 and both class guys.
  22. You don't know which wrestlers will "never see the lineup". Injuries and improvement are both in the mix. Extra workout partners for specific body types and skill in technique or styles are important for some. With a hard limit of 30 some wrestlers from the past would never have made their teams. Would never have had the chance.
  23. Another "full employment for lawyers" decision. When they try it with the wrong kid they will be in court.
  24. Sorry, the mind is a terrible thing... Would still pick Yojo over anyone
  25. How can you argue with perfection? Hodge, Uetake, Sanderson and a few others were perfect. Nothing else tops that.
