15th Anniversary of Cael Sanderson hired to be the coach at Penn State (April 17, 2024) ISU was crushed and still hasn't fully recovered. Iowa was laughing and making jokes and is now the one being laughed at and the butt of Jokes. Cael(& Co) has Penn State in the rarified atmosphere of the historical Oklahoma State and Iowa programs while at their best.

Remember when Braeden Davis was supposed to be Kyle Dake? LOL

Does this mean the 197 pound savior for Iowa who can salute the crowd while doing Splits is off the table? -
OSU looked better this past season than they have for some time.

But Mel Gibson will beat them all because he is a 4 time Lethal Weapon.

It was time for John. He was that grumpy old fart yelling "you kids get off my lawn". He looked 80 years old and unhappy - even though only 4/5 years older than Tom & Terry. OSU looked a bit better this year - until Iowa woke them up to reality once again - and Iowa really wasn't any great shakes either. Really hope John goes into calling matches. Especially Olympic and International freestyle. His analysis, commentary and calling out what could be done was great to hear during the matches. Wish him the best. All time great - but it was time to walk off the mat.

"pinfalls" are for girly men. Rea men pin their opponents and win by fall.

Are we assuming Forrest and Bassett go to PSU?

Learn what? Promote someone for a bogus record? She does not play the same game. Not even with the same size ball. Not to mention Pearl Moore...

Going from an actual sport to promote whores of the game... shameful. -

Members 1 .3k Posted Thursday at 09:43 AM Ugh...please don't post again -------------------------------- Why not? He's entitled to his view just like all the deluded jesus freaks and their myths. ] The Olympic Games supposedly bring together all under the banner of sport, free from politics. We know that is a lie but a useful one at times. Why deliberately introduce politics into sport, especially at the top level of International competition? Who is getting paid on this one? -
If this is really a Ferrari I hope Max Verstappen runs over your foot and your team gets terminal diarrhea.

Grinders - R - Us. Made worse by the reality that they no longer "own the third period" on the mat.

and the Bible tells one and all Jesus turned water into wine. All those crazy bible thumpers who preach against alcohol somehow don't seem to realize their very own Jesus provided wine at his own wedding.

Thoughts on Daton Fix going 65kg after this year.
AgaveMaria replied to Sticks's topic in International Wrestling
It does not matter. Any weight you want if Fix is our representative he might come home with Silver. Gold is not his thing... -
Penn State Homeboy, anyone? Try John Smith in the USA. Or a half dozen Russians

The Portal guys coming for one or two years are generally not Penn State guys. They are not the wrestlers Cael & Co recruited to fit in seamlessly. They come in and try but don't have that same vibe. Some do well but if you watch them you see they are generally not as comfortable as those recruited into the room. No reason to turn them away but it is easy to see they are different. No reason to refuse them as these guys are generally very good. Too bad Real Woods didn't come to Penn State rather than Iowa. I think he would have that Title if he had.

What about his Heavenly Mother? But, the Mormon God is a polygamist so he may not be sure which of the wives is responsible for him?

Is this a wake-up for Iowa..., finally?

Tom formerly Tofurkey wrote: "This thread is not about how well Tom Brands recruits blue chip high school kids, but whether or not he should be replaced as head coach..." --------------------------- No, it is not. Read what I wrote. It is about tweaking and changing some things to get better results and whether T&T can/will bite the bullet and actually do so. Iowa is still very good. But, my view is that T&T are limiting the success of the wrestlers by failing to push past what has somewhat worked for them in the past. It works but other programs(mainly PSU) are doing better. It works and Oklahoma State found out just how well it can work when all goes well. It doesn't work all the time and that is the problem. Firing the coach? As has been pointed out Iowa is still a damned good program. Chasing titles, not owning them. Mired in the past - though not as badly as Oklahoma State with Grampa John "you kids get the hell off my lawn" Smith. (though the addition of Coleman looks to have the possibility of changing that a bit) Again, WILL T&T make the small changes needed? They are in the same boat as Jim Zalesky was. They don't have the touch Dan Gable had in getting the best from individual wrestlers in pushing/teaching them to make the best of their tools and abilities. That is where I see Cael Sanderson & Co really pushing things now. T&T are really a "one size fits all" with individual style more a part of things IF it fits their pre-conceived pattern. If it doesn't they seem to fumble around and appear that hollering and yelling will make up for a lack of finesse in tuning training to the kids strengths and shoring up the weak areas. Again, I hope Tom & Co does it. Good for the sport, good for the school and more importantly good for the kids they put on the mat. -
All hype and hope aside. Who wins the dual with Iowa next season?

Is this a wake-up for Iowa..., finally?
AgaveMaria replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
Is this enough for him to examine what is actually working and make even small changes? This is the question I asked. I am not calling to Fire Tom. I do not hate Iowa wrestling. Was a fan when Danny was the coach and a fan of him on the mat before that - when he was Danny before he maturing and change to Dan. I am a fan of wrestling and see Iowa in a rut. Dan Gable was "one Way" to many but his way put guys with various talents on the mat on the podium. His "one Way" allowed for different types of wrestlers to do well and he had the ability to push guys to bring out their potential. Cael is doing this. Tom is not. Tom is not a failure nor is Iowa. It is small things keeping them down. Gable teams owned the third period. This is no longer the norm. Dan Gable benefitted coming into a program on the rise with Gary Kurdelmeier the head coach. Without it I think he would have still been great but it would have taken a few more years to fill out. Cael is great - but he wasn't great at ISU before the move, was he? Very good but still had to develop and moved to a place he felt would work for him. I believe Tom has the drive to do it. What we don't know and why I posted initially is WILL he make the small changes to get better results?
